I have been working at TOTAL full-time (More than 5 years)
No layoff worries at Total. Shops in the US are very lean and upper management relies on attrition to reduce head count, not layoffs. Very comforting in times of recession or low crude prices. Very structured management (could be considered a con), but quality people through out organization especially at the staff level.
Not super competitive on salaries, and very slow to move people around and up. Young employees who are talented usually get frustrated with how long they are kept in the same role and leave before they can move up. Chemical engineers routinely get first pick of openings.
Advice to Management
Need more flexibility and less red tape to stay competitive in the marketplace.
I applied through college or university. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at TOTAL (Palo Alto, CA) in November 2016.
Asked about my background, research interests, and what I hope to get out of the internship. The interviewer went over the problems the company is interested in, the kind of technologies being utilized, and what is expected of an intern to achieve over the course of an internship
