Taboola – Why Work With Us?

Taboola is the world's leading content discovery platform, serving 360B recommendations to over 1B unique visitors each month on the web's most innovative publisher sites, including NBC, USA Today, The Weather Channel, Tribune and Fox Sports.

Our Story

With an infinite amount of things to read, watch, or listen to surrounding us every day, how do we know where to look first?

Taboola’s founder and CEO, Adam Singolda, calls this the “discovery problem.” Search engines may have changed the world by enabling people to find any and all kinds of information. But how can someone discover something new they may like if they don’t already know to look for it?

Since our launch in 2007, Taboola’s team of ninja-like engineers and digital media mavens have been building the world’s largest and most advanced discovery platform -- or “search engine in reverse” -- delivering personalized recommendations to over one billion users every month, on many of the web’s most innovative and highly-visited websites.

Thousands of leading publishers, marketers, and agencies utilize Taboola’s predictive technology to increase user engagement, monetize their traffic, and distribute their content to engaged audiences across the web. Together, our teams have pioneered a major new marketing channel alongside “search” and “social,” proving that “discovery” can power successful campaigns for companies of all sizes, throughout the customer journey.

These days, passionate about bringing “discovery” to more markets around the world, there are over 450 of us “Taboolars” (and growing), connecting people with content they may like but never knew existed, with offices in New York, Los Angeles, London, Tel Aviv, New Delhi, Sao Paulo, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Bangkok.

Taboola is changing the way people around the world connect to content they may like and never knew existed.

Our algorithmically-powered engine generates over 300B monthly recommendations on USA Today, NBC, The Weather Channel and thousands of other sites.

I have been working at Taboola full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice culture: smart people, relaxed about how people manage their responsibilities, open door policy with management. Industrious and hard working without pressure or people checking what time others are coming and going — so refreshing.

The company spends freely on making office life comfortable and happy. They also invest heavily in training, & professional development. Want to fly cross country for a week of face time with a team you collaborate with in a different office? Easiest approval ever, flights, hotels and all.

The product, engineers, data, AI... very solid. It’s not google or Facebook, but outside of FAANG this the most credible player out there in terms of tech assets in hand.

Bottom line: they’re chill, smart, and have a good product. Nice place to work.

    Cons

Base pay could be higher, but it’s livable and not below market, just not at the top of market either. Commission structure is a little funky, but I’ve never been anywhere where it was fantastic and beloved by the people in sales roles.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up, excited for the future.

    Paralegal Interview

    Application

The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Taboola (New York, NY).

    Interview

I met with two people. One of which I met in person and had an amazing interview. We spoke at great length and everything flowed pretty naturally. She had questions written to ask me but wound up not needing to ask because the answers to her questions came out naturally through our conversation. I then went on to meet the second person who I had to interview via video call as she was abroad. This is where an interview that I had thought been going really well so far kind of fell off. The interviewer did not have my resume on hand and had not even seen it before speaking with me over video. Despite the resume issue, I thought the conversation still went well and even offered to provide her my resume via email.

Towards the end, I met with the recruiter and tried to wrap up what I could grasp so far from the company and overall demands of the position. From the conversation we had, it seemed like they were very serious in looking for someone but seemed to be taking a very long time in making a decision on the kind of candidate they were looking for.

It felt like a smack in the face when I received a generic email from an email address that wasn’t even that of the recruiter that I had been making contact with throughout my interview process telling me they had decided to move on with other candidates. Despite the fact that I had spent 2.5 hours interviewing there sending me a generic email was just rude. Had the email at least been sent by the recruiter I would’ve felt a little less offended at how they were very impersonal with me even though I was told they hadn’t had that many interviewees so taking the time to email me would not have been too much to ask.

Long story short, these people must think they are above even qualified candidates. They’ve had this position open for over 5 months now and they are still actively seeking a paralegal. But at this point if they aren’t willing to come down to earth and humble themselves they will never find a candidate worthy of working in this position.

My suggestions for this company is to interview with the understanding that if you’re pulling their resume that candidate should be expected to perform the duties required by the position. Having someone in is to see if they would make a good fit. Figure out what you want then invite people in. Not the other way around.
