Our Company

Talbots is a multi-channel retailer of women's classic apparel, shoes and accessories. We're known for providing gracious service and a quality selection of timeless wardrobe essentials designed to fit women of all shapes and sizes.

Our Heritage

In 1947, Nancy and Rudolph Talbot opened their first shop in Hingham, Mass. a quaint New England town not far from Boston. They were entrepreneurs - eager to learn with keen vision for what their customers wanted.  Their business quickly became became known as “the store with the red door” and a go-to destination for classic style, great color, impeccable tailoring and personalized service. In 1948, they launched their direct mail business by distributing 3,000 black-and-white fliers to names obtained from The New Yorker magazine. Today, there are more than 500 Talbots stores throughout the U.S. and Canada with catalogs and an e-commerce site reaching a vast audience of loyal customers around the world.

    I worked at Talbots part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Talbots was a great part-time job, especially for my first serious employment. They asked for the best from you. They were committed to brand excellence and maintaining a classic tradition while moving forward with the times (visually).
    The management team was excellent; the GM was considerate and listened to what we needed as employees but never promised what she couldn't deliver. She was an excellent boss to work for and gave me a wonderful structure for what to look for in a leader.

    Cons

    The only cons would be that all the employees are only part-time. There aren't any full-time positions open until you get to corporate headquarters-type positions. I didn't anticipate any kind of growth while working there.
    Any other cons were the kind that come from working part-time retail.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to what your employees say. Understand that your management team does so much for you in the day-to-day and they can only do so much unless you show them you really appreciate them.

    Application

    I applied through an employee referral. The process took a week. I interviewed at Talbots (Jacksonville, FL) in February 2017.

    Interview

    I met with the Store Manager of one location and we had a very basic interview, she told me about the company and how her store ran as well as the structure. I met with the Store Manager of the store I ended up in a few days later. We talked about the clientele base and her store. Overall a wonderful experience.
