Talend CEO: IPO Lessons For Entrepreneurs

Lately it's been brutal for some high-profile IPOs, as seen with companies like Snap and Blue Apron. Yet this does not tell the whole story. The fact is that there are plenty of less-well-known operators that have done quite well. Consider Talend (TLDN).

Data-driven businesses use Talend to deliver timely and easy access to data.

Talend lets organizations unlock all of their data, including historical, live, and emerging data. Through native support of the modern big data platforms, Talend’s zero footprint solution takes the complexity out of integration and equips IT to be more responsive to the demands of the business, at a predictable cost.

Big data is a complicated adventure. Business requirements are always changing, and data-driven organizations require more access to data, faster.

Recipes from the past do not work in the big data environment. Simply put, current integration technologies are not cutting it moving forward. Now more than ever, organizations need the right tool for the right task.

Talend equips IT to deliver all data where, when, and how the business needs it.

Business cases for big data are as numerous and diverse as industries and company types. But one thing is clear: organizations of all sizes are embarking on the journey now. And the ones who don’t will be left on the sidelines. Talend has worked with many enterprise IT organizations and industry luminaries to identify the primary obstacles to success with big data:

  • Availability of big data skills
  • Need to integrate many different sources
  • Deployment and management of the big data infrastructure
  • Governance of data
  • Difficulty to obtain funding

The big data promise is not only to meet today’s needs, but also what it will be able to deliver tomorrow and in the future. That future is showing up on the horizon, with new technologies that will enable real-time and operational big data. Because organizations want their big data investment to scale, they need a platform that offers the modularity required for the future.

Only Talend can future-proof big data investments!

Beyond big data, Talend’s unified solutions portfolio includes data integrationdata quality, master data managemententerprise service bus and business process management.  Talend’s platform is architected around a common set of easy-to-use tools implemented across all products to maximize the skills of integration teams.

I have been working at Talend full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Talend is in the early IPO stage and things are very exciting. We have a fast paced environment with very little to no hand holding. This creates a culture of creativity and accountability for all levels of employees. You have the opportunity to create, build, and own processes on a global scale and run with projects from the ground up.

The people who work here are smart and motivated.

    Cons

Growing pains are a reality for all fast growing companies. Processes need to be built where there is nothing in place. New territories need to be broken into and many people have to wear many different hats that are not necessarily part of their job description. This can be tiring and frustrating but also exciting.

    Advice to Management

Build onto a greater global Talend culture. Bring ALL employees together for Talend contests, events, and updates to make us feel more like a unified company. Your people are your greatest asset, help us to feel more connected with one another, especially remote employees.

    Technical Architecture Manager Interview

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Talend (Redwood City, CA) in November 2017.

    Interview

The interview process consisted of 5 rounds... first one was with the recruiter; the second one was with the hiring manager... fairly technical and about past experiences; the third one was technical; the fourth one was a situation based interview and finally the fifth one was an onsite interview where I was asked to create and come prepared with a presentation that I had to present in front of a panel, also had a couple of one on one's. The whole process was rigorous and very well structured with an extremely helpful, amiable and polite recruiter who provided timely communication. I enjoyed the entire recruiting process.

    Interview Questions

    • Primarily around big data technologies, implementations from a data integration perspective and traditional concepts like data governance and MDM. There were also situation based questions around dealing with clients when in an engagement and team play related. There was a role play when presenting in front of the panel in the final round   1 Answer
