Company Updates

  • Taylor Design is honored as one of the 2018 Best Firms to Work For in Architecture as presented by The Zweig Group at their Hot Firms Conference in Dallas, Tx in September.

  • Our San Diego office participated in the 10th annual Tables For Tots fundraiser benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. All the tables were on display, voted on, played with, and best of all celebrated for raising money through auctions and donations. The night was a huge success and the Taylor Design table won first place for it's design! The picnic table opened up in the center to provide a sand box, came complete with picnic accessories, toy fire pit, tent, and additional chairs. There were nearly 20 design firms that participated.

Taylor Design – Why Work For Us?

At Taylor Design, we collaborate with our clients to learn together and develop user-centered solutions that are effective, meaningful, and delightful.

We embrace market sectors and projects that contribute to positive experiences, and the creation of greater possibilities. We discover, develop, and design solutions for the built environment.

Design Process

We use strategy-based design as a creative method to discover, define, develop, and deliver solutions that meet user needs and drive value for our clients. Strategy-based design is an iterative approach that leverages the best of lean methodology, human-centered design, and design thinking.

Services

Taylor Design’s three practice areas – Architectural Design, Interior Design, and Design Strategies – are united in their use of strategy-based design as both a point of view, and a shared process.

Architecture

We believe in creating spaces of consequence—places where individuals can come together to develop an appreciation for community, a shared purpose, and identity. In such settings, experiences are enhanced and more authentic, cultures are enriched and new ones created, and a sense of community becomes more meaningful even while architectural designs are mindful of sustainability and set the stage for greater possibilities.

Interior Design

We believe that interior spaces should anticipate the needs of the people who use them. We collaborate with our clients to transform the experience of their surroundings and interactions in ways that drive value beyond the physical space. Through innovative thinking and thoughtful planning, we create environments that support comfort, privacy, connection, productivity and learning. We strive to create beautiful spaces that engage the senses, support the culture, delight the mind and leave a lasting impression.

Design Strategy

We believe in getting to the most meaningful outcome as efficiently as possible, with human needs in mind. Our strategy-based design process includes questioning core assumptions, investigating existing conditions, exploring analogous industries, understanding the competitive landscape, and observing behaviors in context. This holistic approach opens new paths for discovery and unleashes ideas that lead to innovative outcomes.

Design That Empowers People

At Taylor Design we believe that our work can make a difference - whether it's helping people navigate a healthcare setting, supporting new ways that research and education can happen, or learning with our new clients to develop new ways of thinking about doing things better. While our firm was founded on these ideas, our future will be reimagined every day, and in each of our new projects, and with those who join our team with an appetite for exploration and discovery.

As a two-time winner of Zweig Group's Best Architectural Firms to Work For, Taylor Design attracts curious-minded, unassuming people with an entrepreneurial spirit. Our success lies in being good listeners and good partners with our clients. We help clients develop their own solutions by engaging them in the design process. We roll up our sleeves and work through problems together as we discover, define, develop, and deliver a built solution. Through this process we have developed lasting relationships and shared success with clients that align with our values. As an employee-owned firm, our staff understands what drives success. Every employee is positioned to think like an owner.

If you're that kind of person, we invite you to join us on our journey.

Benefits include:

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Professional Development

  • Medical, Dental, & Vision

  • Voluntary Accident, Hospital & Serious Illness Coverage

As an integrated design firm, we share an iterative process replete with strategic methods, which help us uncover user needs, work efficiently with clients, expand our creative thinking, and collaborate effectively with each other.

We’re so invested in the quality of our design process that we created a product – a deck of Method Cards – with the goal to instill these behaviors across the firm, and practice them consistently. When we speak a shared language, we strengthen our culture, improve communication, and move in the same direction towards high quality design output.

I have been working at Taylor Design full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Taylor Design puts people first. The firm cares deeply for its employees, and the employees in turn care deeply for the users for whom they design. The result is a positive workplace culture built on trust and a desire to make a positive social impact through design.

    Cons

Taylor Design is still evolving from beyond its early roots as a single-office, single-market, privately held firm. The firm has the ability to compete with firms three times its size, but hasn't yet solidified its place in the marketplace or in the minds of its prospective clients. That is slowly changing, however.

    Advice to Management

Continue the great work that has been done to emphasize the importance of human-centered design as the common thread through everything the firm does. Don't be afraid to think bigger and take risks.
