Teachable – Why Work With Us?

Why Teachable?

We keep an open, interactive space for team collaboration in order to make a valuable impact on a day-to-day basis. Even if perfection is impossible, we strive for it anyway. Why? We want to produce the best damn ed-tech product out there. (Plus, “A” for effort, right?)

Our whole team is always learning and growing. From hack-weeks to company learning initiatives, we’re always working toward a higher level of intelligence and understanding.

The Teachable culture

Hit heavy, stay small
Tight-knit, dynamic teams work with more agility, communication, and freedom than large-scale companies.

Ambition by the boatload
We love people who aim for greatness. They inspire and excite their teammates, raising the bar for all of us.

Open communication
We’re big fans of transparency for many reasons, but the abridged version is: it makes everything we do SO much easier.

Autonomy and attitude
We’re a team of self-starters who take serious pride in our work – and it shows.

Support and win
When we empower others to succeed, we all win. (And we’re not talking about participation trophies.)

Teamwork makes the dream work
We work together to bring our passions and expertise to make Teachable the best it can be.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Teachable full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Teachable is one of the best places I've worked, largely because of the people I work with. I believe in the company mission, and I think Teachable does a great job hiring talented, smart employees without an ego. I sincerely enjoy coming into work every day.

I also think that there's a lot of opportunity here. We're in a really fortunately place right now because our business has steadily grown over time, which has allowed us to invest in people (especially within the last year, where there have been key leadership hires and frankly, more engineers).

And in a good way, there's still a lot of work to be done. People are really invested in continuous improvement instead of relying on what's been done well, and I enjoy the challenge of trying new things.

I've worked for other tech startups and it seemed like the only focus was "grow at any cost." Teachable has been thoughtful about growth in a sustainable way. It doesn't feel like we're at a breakneck pace.

Lastly, I think the CEO has a strong, big vision for the future of the company. Unlike anywhere else I've worked, our business's success depends on people actually using our product and doing well (i.e. selling their own online courses), and it's been refreshing to see a business committed to actually seeing people succeed instead of just getting new customers at the door at any cost.

    Cons

I really enjoy working here, and this isn't my first startup so I'm more accustomed to an environment where you have to adapt. What I will say is that I think Teachable is going through a (necessary, unavoidable) transition that all growing businesses go through. The business is evolving as we hit almost 100 people compared to when I joined at a much smaller number. I think that type of transition is always hard.

That said, I truly think that the leadership team and the employees here are keeping our best interests at heart and are doing their best to continue making Teachable a great place to work. I don't intend to sugar coat the situation; growing a business is a huge challenge and it's bumpy at times. But I'm really happy to be here and feel more optimistic about my future here than I have at any other company (including my former employment at other tech startups).

I think Teachable wouldn't be a great fit for someone who wants to come into work and do the same predictable work every day. I think this is a place for someone who wants to collaborate, think creatively, try new things, fail sometimes in a supported environment, and ultimately work for a business that supports everyday people.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Teachable in October 2019.

    Interview

The phone interview process was okay, Not sure why they had someone from out of state contact me. I did great on the interview and was then presented with a project which i completed within the time given. I didnt get a response until a week later that they do not have a compelling position for me so why have me do the project if your intentions werent to hire in the first place. I googled teachable’s competitors which i then applied to and I received 2 strong offers in which i will be moving forward with one.
