Teachers Pay Teachers – Why Work For Us?


Teachers Pay Teachers (TpT) was founded in 2006 by Paul Edelman. After spending years as an educator in the New York City public schools system, Paul decided to solve a real problem he struggled with every day – finding and sharing educational content with colleagues. What began as a humble exchange for teachers looking to share lesson plans has since exploded into an education powerhouse where teachers have created more than 3 million resources for all aspects of PreK-12 education.

Our Culture
At TpT, we are looking for good people to do great things. Our dreams are big and our passion to make them a reality inspires us to do our best every day. We work collaboratively to solve important problems and build new products to serve our large and growing user base. And we are always teaching and learning. For example, employees lead lunch and learns on a variety of interesting topics related to their expertise.     Pros

    I've worked (and consulted) for many technology companies and Teachers Pay Teachers is a truly unique organization. Not only is their engineering culture top-notch from a technical and collaborative perspective, but their commitment to diversity, transparent communication, and growing engineers really makes them stand out. And, to top it off, they have a really successful product that is having a huge positive impact on the K-12 world.

    If you're looking for a software engineering role where you can grow and make a difference in the world, I highly recommend Teachers Pay Teachers!

    Cons

    The only "con" I can think of is that there are a lot of interesting technical and growth challenges and Teachers Pay Teachers will need to be extra careful about focusing to ensure they can deliver valuable improvements consistently.

    Application

    I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Teachers Pay Teachers (New York, NY) in May 2018.

    Interview

    Interview process consisted of one initial screen for which we had the option to do a video chat or visit the office. I chose the visit and it was really exciting to meet the team. Then I was called for a full day of on-site interview. The day consisted of 5 interviews, 3 of which involved coding or design questions. One of them was with Customer Experience Manager which gave a great insight into the impact of TpT on it's customers(teachers). They also took me out for lunch where I got the chance to have informal conversation with the team members and to get to know the company better.
    One most amazing thing I experienced was after I received the offer, I received congratulatory emails from everyone I met during the interview process. This is an amazing place to work with even more amazing people.
