Interview
I applied through Indeed. They reached out 3 days later to schedule a phone screening. The screening took 8 minutes, asked pretty typical questions like about your software background and work experience. Specifically, MySQL, Angular, .NET, and JavaScript. The same day afterwards, they schedule a phone interview for the next day. All of this was fine. After calling into the interview, the interviewer seemed flustered and underprepared, but that happens. After an initial description of my qualifications, they asked the same things that I was asked in the phone screening, which was weird. However they then proceeded to ask about my "4 month gap". I recently graduated, 4 months ago, and have been working on solo projects while looking for work and applying to places. I explained this to them, but they did not like it. They explained they were looking for someone with a bit more experience, but also ended the interview by telling me I should take some courses while I search for work to cover any "gaps". I just graduated... Ridiculous and a huge red flag. I would have been okay with them just telling me I was underqualified, I get it, I am looking for entry level work, but this was scary, to say the least.
