Our next generation security platform enables organizations to rapidly deploy identity-based overlay networks to ‘cloak’ trusted endpoints, networks and assets. The solution starts with Zero Trust, only allowing explicitly trusted (whitelisted) systems or endpoints onto a Tempered overlay network. Cloaking means there is no TCP/IP footprint for your trusted devices—making them invisible to any untrusted device or system.

Integrated orchestration enables you to reduce management complexity and ensures elasticity and scalability by automating the setup and ongoing maintenance of your Tempered Networks deployment. Our solution enables easy network micro-segmentation to greatly reduce your attack surface and simplify your infrastructure, making your network more secure, resilient and easier to manage. Following a defense-in-depth strategy, Tempered Networks adds a vital layer of hardened security that seamlessly drops into your existing infrastructure–preserving your current investment.

Our proven technology was under development and put into production for over 10 years at a Fortune 50 company—just recently released commercially for the broader market. We have customers in the commercial, industrial and public sectors with Fortune 500 customers deploying ‘well tempered’ networks today.

Tempered Networks is a rapidly growing startup in Seattle that is revolutionizing cyber security. We fix fundamental network security problems by securing the network, end-to-end. Unlike traditional security products, such as firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, NAC, etc., we do away with the “clean” and the “dirty” parts of the network by whitelisting and encrypting all legitimate end-to-end device communications. If it is not legitimate, it is simply dropped at the edge. Our product suite includes virtual appliances and hardened hardware for a wide spectrum of environments. We leverage cutting edge security protocols and centralized orchestration for large scale, enterprise deployments.

Our team has a powerful track record of delivering game changing security and network traffic management products that solve complex business challenges.     I have been working at Tempered Networks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    I work with amazing and brilliant people who push me to be better every day. This is a code shop where everyone collaborates, everyone's work is transparent, and we are all running at full steam constantly. The culture here is work hard AND have fun, and that is what keeps it from becoming a grind. I look forward to coming into work every day, and I have leveled up SO much since I came here. If you want to work on the cutting edge of network security technology, with a team of people trying to change the world, this could be the place for you.

    Cons

    We are a lean startup, so naturally you get the concessions that come with that. Benefits and pay are good, but we can't win a hiring war against companies like Amazon and Microsoft on benefits yet. This is honestly the only con, and its one that we are all happy to make because we believe in the future of this company.

    Advice to Management

    As we grow we must find a way to preserve our extremely healthy culture. We are at a very healthy size right now (~80 people last I checked) and as we are poised to potentially double in size, managing this growth will be a challenge. Lets continue to stay transparent, stay connected, keep our eye on the crucial tasks, and continue to strike a healthy work hard / play hard balance.

    I applied online. I interviewed at Tempered Networks (Seattle, WA) in October 2016.

    Interview

    Talked to executive team.

    On the plus side, the inteviews were prompt and the people were friendly.

    One the negative side, many interviewers were unprepared. It was clear they did not know what skills they were looking for, except maybe to hire another refugee from F5. They seemed oblivious to the fact that they are competing for people. No post-interview follow-up whatsoever.
