I have been working at Temple Daily Telegram full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice people, relaxed atmosphere if you just want a “day job” with no real stress.

    Cons

Not so sure the newspaper can stay in business bc management does not seem focused on growth or interested in making decisions to bring the company in to the 21st century. Old farts in upper management are anchors to growth and creativity.

    Advice to Management

Retire. Focus on growth. You’ve got some talent, on staff, whom you should listen to. Also, exhausting your new, passionate employees with no vacation for one-year is just bad for business. Allow employees with passion and creativity to steer the ship...the old way isn’t working. Your bad decisions are putting employees at risk of loosing jobs and the community at risk of loosing a valuable resource.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Temple Daily Telegram in February 2014.

    Interview

I submitted clips; afterwards I had a phone interview with the editor; following was an in-person interview with the managing editor, editor and publisher (note: Interviewee must pay traveling costs. No Skype interviews permitted). Interview with editors was lengthy; took about a day. Editor with publisher was only a few minutes.

    Interview Questions

    Negotiation

No negotiation. Flat offer was stated.
