I have been working at The Arc full-time
If you are a hard/effective worker you can make a good paycheck. They max overtime out at 20 hours a week because it is so abundant.
-The overhead "office" is mostly out of the picture and they have a hard time relating to actual workers. -One .27 raise after 5 years of employment, their excuse is their non-profit status.
Advice to Management
Make sure the med book is squared away to make for a happy employee.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took a week. I interviewed at The Arc (Annandale, NJ).
First interview is at the office. Second is at the group home you will be working at. They may involve a client to interview you as well. They try to make the process as easy as possible. There is a lot of personal judgement involved on the part of the interviewer. You may answer correctly, but if you don't seem like the kind of person who can handle developmentally disabled people, you won't get a call back.
