    Positive Outlook

I worked at The Coastal Companies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Coastal Companies is an organization that treats employees like family. It was an uplifting, positive work environment where I made lifelong friendships and professional connections. They respect their employees and value family time and work/life balance. They are willing to pay decent salaries and provide attractive benefits.

    Cons

The industry took a hit during the economic downturn and had to lay off may employees.

    Advice to Management

Continue to value your dedicated employees and make whatever decisions necessary to deliver on promises to your customers.

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Coastal Companies in March 2009.

    Interview

I had two interviews with this company in which the job was offered on the spot during the second interview. After the first interview with the direct supervisor of the position, I was asked to create an advertisement for the company to show my marketing abilities. After a satisfactory review of my project, I was given more detail about the job by the Vice President of the Company and offered the job. I started two weeks later. It was a very pleasant experience.

    Interview Questions

    • I suppose being asked to create an ad was unexpected and required work to complete. I was asked to describe myself in three words which I found to be difficult. I was also asked to describe a situation where I failed and how I handled it.   Answer Question

    Negotiation

I negotiated an annual salary rather than hourly rate. It was well received.
