Mission: The David J. Joseph Company (DJJ), founded in 1885, is a world leader in scrap metal recycling & trading. With over 70 locations and nearly 1,900 employees nationwide, the Joseph Company is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of ...
DJJ's Metals Division donated 2000 masks to area hospitals. Now more than ever we need to give back to the communities where we operate. Proud to work for a company that cares.
Thank you to the UC Bearcat for helping us recruit top talent for our IT department!
In the scrap recycling industry, DJJ has a well-earned reputation for integrity and innovation. We’re recognized as a good community citizen who is trustworthy, financially strong and environmentally proactive. Since 1885, we’ve followed the principles of our founder Joseph Joseph. And become one of the most respected leaders in the industry.
Today, we have relationships with several thousand scrap metal businesses around the world. Businesses that trust us to provide value beyond price. Our customers know we deliver what we promise. Sellers know we pay fairly and on time. Here’s what else sets us apart:
We’re a world leader in scrap processing and trading. And we’re not only helping change old metal back into new, we’re also changing misperceptions of what a scrap company can do… and be.
When we – the more than 1,800 employees of DJJ – look at scrap, we don’t see heaps of rusty, old metal. We see potential. Potential for shiny new cars and appliances. Potential for affordable feedstock for production. And of course, potential for conserving energy and creating a cleaner environment. Then we go to work, harnessing all that potential with the best technology in the business.
Proud. Passionate. Team Players.
Working at DJJ creates a sense of loyalty. We’re passionate about our business and about building relationships that stand the test of time. We’re hands-on self-starters who thrive on opportunities, challenges and have a strong work ethic. We’re competitive but, first and foremost, we’re team players.

I have been working at The David J. Joseph Company full-time (More than 10 years)
The David J Joseph Company lives by their core values. Safety, Integrity, Respect & Excellence. Teammates are valued and encouraged to take ownership over their careers. You will get out of your career what you put into it and your opinion will always be valued and sought out. One of my favorite things about the company are the people I work with. DJJ has done an excellent job of finding some of the brightest minds in the business that are also very down to earth-a combination that doesn't always go hand in hand. This is a company to look at if you are a self-starter that wants to make an impact!
The nature of the scrap business is cyclical - the company does a great job of riding these waves but it is a good thing to be mindful of when joining the team.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2+ weeks. I interviewed at The David J. Joseph Company (Cincinnati, OH).
I began the process by reaching out to them through email. I was contacted back within a few days and had a phone screening. From there I was able to give a couple options for interview days and a couple weeks later I was interviewing in Cincinnati. Meeting different members from each sales team really left me with a better understanding of the company and its values. As this was my first time apply for a large internship, I was nervous of the process. Their HR staff made me feel very comfortable and encouraged me along the way. Soon after my interview I was offered the internship.
