Mission: We realize that our success as a company is completely dependent on the dedicated, talented and creative individuals that bring The Fresh Market experience to life.
The Fresh Market Way of Life is more than policies and procedures. It’s about ...
The Fresh Market was founded in 1982 with one simple goal in mind: to bring friends, family and neighbors high-quality products in a warm and friendly, old-world European atmosphere. Today, we continue to serve our customers and our communities as a true neighborhood market and an extraordinary food destination store.
Every location employs a team of friendly, well-trained professionals who pride themselves on creating a special experience for our customers. Each one of us plays an important role in providing personal service within a setting that inspires the imagination and delights the senses.
That could mean offering cooking advice, helping plan the perfect meal, or sharing samples of our deli meats, specialty cheeses, produce or gourmet baked goods. Everything we do centers on engaging our customers in an approachable way that is genuinely attentive to their needs. Our company was founded to help connect people to their food and to one another.
Working at The Fresh Market means being part of something special, being part of a family that is passionate about the work we do. It means belonging to an organization characterized by quality, respect, accountability and professionalism. We nurture a culture of success where people are encouraged to be at their best in bringing our brand to life for our customers.
You will find that The Fresh Market strives to be a place where you can dream, grow and achieve your professional and personal goals; a place where you are empowered to work hard and express your individuality as you help to create an experience that is as unique as you are.
The Fresh Market is committed to being an active part of the communities where we do business. Our employees enthusiastically support local organizations that are important to our communities and our customers. Through daily food donations, sponsoring local community events, and supporting our National Charitable Partners, our stores are committed to making community relations an integral part of our business.
Feeding Our Neighbors
All of our stores provide regular donations to local food banks. In 2012, our stores donated more than $13.8 million worth of food. In 2013, that number surpassed $16.4 million.
Connecting with Communities
With a quarterly budget for in-kind donations, our stores engage in a variety of fun and creative fundraising efforts and partnerships with local nonprofit (501c3) organizations. In 2013, our stores made over $500,000 worth of in-kind donations to support local community organizations.
Helping Our Neighbors in Need
In 2013, our stores raised over $440,000 for the American Red Cross to help those affected by countless crises around the world each year.
In 2009 and 2010, we sponsored and built a Habitat for Humanity home for a family in Greensboro, North Carolina, where our company is headquartered.
National Charitable Partners:
Share Our Strength® - No Kid Hungry® Campaign
The Fresh Market is a proud partner of Share Our Strength®, a national nonprofit, committed to ending childhood hunger in America by connecting children with the nutritious food they need to lead healthy, active lives. Through its No Kid Hungry® Campaign - a national effort to end childhood hunger in America by 2015 - Share Our Strength ensures children in need are enrolled in effective federal nutrition programs; invests in community organizations fighting hunger; teaches families how to cook healthy, affordable meals; and builds public-private partnerships to end childhood hunger, at the state and city level.
Since The Fresh Market’s inaugural “Cupcakes for a Cause" fundraising event in 2013, The Fresh Market has raised over $336,000 for No Kid Hungry. Visit Strength.org to get involved.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
The Fresh Market is proud of its longstanding partnership with JDRF, the leading global funder of type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. We support JDRF nationally in a variety of fundraising efforts throughout the year.
To date, we have raised nearly $4 million for JDRF and helped increase awareness for their work to create a world without T1D through our annual Sneaker and Sidewalk Sale and other fundraising events. In 2013, the Sidewalk Sale raised more than $640,000 for JDRF.

I met some good people
Its a retail environment. Corporate does not care about you. The pay is low. The scheduling is erratic. Advancement opportunities are limited, and often lead to ridiculously more work for little more pay. Hard to make ends meet with pay. There are pay caps for all positions, which leaves no incentive for long term employment bc once you hit your cap, you know you will not ever get a raise ever again.
Advice to Management
Remember the people who work below you are PEOPLE. Be kind. Also, if you hate your job, don't take it out on your employees.
I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at The Fresh Market (Raleigh, NC) in April 2017.
Phone interview then live interview with regional manager. Phone interview went great and was passed on immediately to 2nd interview. Regional manager went "unscripted" and asked no questions, more of a get to know me and talked a lot about the position, specific store needs and the company. I felt the interview went great and he said he would contact me and let me know the next day about his decision. No call came the next day. I called him back the following day around 2pm and he stated that the recruiter (the phone interview) was supposed to send me something and they had gone a different route. Very poor business ethics and a waste of my time.
