The Menta Group – Why Work For Us?

Bob Neubeck, Karen Evans, and Father Larry Cozzi founded the Menta Group in 1973 because they were concerned about the devastating effects behavior related suspensions and expulsions were having on school-aged children. Beginning with one teacher and one student, the Menta Group now operates numerous private and public/private partnership schools, serving over 3,000 students annually from more than 50 school districts across Illinois and Arizona.

The Menta Group has evolved into a dynamic, responsive, multi-state education organization built on the principle that all students have a right to be in school. We adhere to policy that says no student will be rejected, suspended, or expelled.

Our organization pursues innovative, state of the art practices and collaboration as a means to fulfill our mission. This pursuit has fostered the philosophy governing our service models, enhancing the success of our students, the effectiveness of our programs, and the value our programs have for the parents and the public school districts we serve.

Our Educational Philosophy

Our over 40 years of experiences in special education has honed our approach to education and helped form an educational philosophy that emphasizes personalization, preparation for life, and supports for success. These three ideas serve as the foundation of all of our interventions.

  • Personalization: We  create a personalized system of education that engages and motivates all students, regardless of his or her circumstances.  Using  a data-driven framework to set goals and assess progress, we ensure that all students receive the academic and developmental supports specific to their situations that will help them succeed  in school and in life.
  • Preparation for Life Our goal is to prepare each student for life beyond school by ensuring readiness for post-secondary education, meaningful employment, and engaged citizenship.  Key to achieving this goal is the use of  performance-based learning strategies that place all students at the center of the learning process, enabling them to demonstrate mastery based on high, clear, and commonly held expectations.   We  also emphasize anytime, everywhere learning opportunities (Real World Learning) that provide constructive learning experiences in all aspects of students’ lives.  We believe in the power of authentic student voice, which is the deep engagement of students in directing and owning their individual learning as well as shaping the nature of the education experience among their peers.
  • Supports for Success:  We understand that education requires a focus on the whole child and not on academic achievement alone.  We  implement a comprehensive system of learning supports that address social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development along a continuum of services to ensure the success of all student.

The Menta Group employs a diverse group of talented professionals.

  • Our diversity creates a stimulating work environment and adds depth to the entire organization.

  • Candidates who appreciate the value of human similarities and differences are encouraged to apply!

Our Mission

To provide innovative solutions to critical problems in education and human services.

Our Vision

We envision a society in which all youth can be successful. As an organization, we are especially committed to making success a reality for high-risk youth. Our mandate is to be the recognized national leader in serving high-risk youth in educational and social service settings through the provision of empirically based innovative solutions to critical problems in education and human services. We strive to make a positive impact on high-risk youth and the professionals who work with them by focusing on program development, professional training, and child advocacy.

We share a common vision that all youth can and will be successful. This success is unique for all students and includes reintegration to the student’s home school, high school graduation, college credit articulation and preparedness for post-secondary opportunities.

Our strength is in our passion, collaboration and diversity!

At Menta We Believe Our Kids Deserve:

College, Career, and Citizenship Readiness

We do not define success only in terms of academics but recognize that our students must flourish in all aspects of their lives.

  • Citizenship Ready:  We help students increase their understanding of the rights and responsibilities of being a citizen.  Our students consistently seek opportunities to serve and contribute to their schools, the work force, and their larger communities.
  • Career Ready:  As educators, we understand that students cannot develop the skills necessary to be successful in the workplace and in their communities solely in an academic classroom.  Through our Individual Career Empowerment (ICE) model, students explore careers  and develop critical work skills.  Career pathways available to students  include: auto body, construction and building trades, art, technology, and music.
  • College Ready:  Students are taught the relationship between post-secondary education and earning power. They learn the requirements for post-secondary education and they have a plan for meetings these requirements prior to graduation.  They are skilled in the process of applying to post-secondary education organizations and will be accepted in at least one of these organizations of their choice at the time of their graduation.

It is amazing to be able to empower our students with these three tenets of success in life!
