TheHomeMag – Why Work For Us?

Become a HomeMagger!

TheHomeMag® was founded in July 2002 as a single magazine location in southwest Florida with a simple purpose to drive local business to local home improvement businesses through a high-end direct mail magazine. Today, we are a collection of corporately and franchise owned Publishers with the same common core purpose: to connect reputable local home improvement companies with the top single family owner-occupied homes in every market we publish by designing client-specific brand-to-action advertising.

At present, there are nearly sixty (60) TheHomeMag® magazine publications in production in 27 states. In addition to our core magazine, many also produce a broad sampling of off-page accessory products like HomeIMPROVED®, Bookmarks, DML Cards, and other Inserts. Our Publishers collectively serve over 6,000 print advertising clients each month nationwide.

With nearly 140 million magazines and accessory products mailing to the top single family homeowners each year generating some 2 million client-calls annually, our focus remains unchanged from those early days: to create the best top calls for every client from buying homeowners every month with a common effort that pushes us to strive toward creating Raving Fans in our clients, our audience, and each other.

Please, take some time and look around our current openings and if you like what you see, don’t forget to submit a resume. We look forward to hearing from you!

Meet three of TheHomeMag's Graphic Designers:

Nicole Packard Graphic Designer- Corporate

I've been working at TheHomeMag for just shy of six years. I began my career as a Jr. Graphic Designer at the Corporate office, working closely with two other Senior level designers as support for their markets. TheHomeMag quickly saw my potential and eventually promoted me to my own market. Since then I've had the opportunity to grow with the company and as a designer while growing TheHomeMag with launches in new markets. In 2017 the opportunity to move from Florida to my dream state of Colorado went from a dream to a possibility with the full support of TheHomeMag allowing me to move and work remotely. TheHomeMag community is like none I've ever experienced. Everyone is extremely supportive and encouraging, from the publishers and sales teams to the management staff. TheHomeMag is one giant family and one that I am grateful to be a part of!

Matt Foreman Senior Graphic Designer- Southwest Florida

After nearly 10 years with the company, I am confident to say TheHomeMag is by far the best place to work. The intensity of meeting your publication’s deadline is softened when you walk through the door to see a TV monitor with the latest birthday boy or girl riding a dinosaur or climbing a mountain made of cupcakes, compliments of the design team’s photoshop wizardry. Working as a designer here gives me the opportunity to explore my creative side through constructing ads and magazine covers. Plus, the home improvement junkie inside of me loves being enveloped in cutting edge products and visual inspiration. As an added bonus, I began working from home about 2 years ago, which has allowed me the privilege of watching my sons grow up.

2016 Cover of the Year Winner: Matt Foreman

Whether working at the branch level or on the corporate team, you will feel a sense that everyone is one big family, part of a big vision. When you hear people talking about companies that people don’t leave once they are hired, this is one of those companies, and I feel privileged to be a part of it.

Cristina El Khouri Graphic Designer- Fort Lauderdale

I’ve been at TheHomeMag for a little over a year now and it has been an incredible experience. It’s wonderful to work for a magazine that helps so many homeowners develop great ideas and projects on how to improve their homes. The best part of it all is designing ads for our clients who want to advertise in the magazine and then to see the wonderful results they receive. I was selected as the runner up for the Golden Duck award this past year at our company conference, meaning I was calm on the surface and working hard behind the scenes (like a duck’s feet underwater), and I couldn’t be any prouder! I love my job and I strive to become better at it everyday. Thank you, TheHomeMag, for this wonderful opportunity.

Erwin Dass  General Manager-Southern California

In my past work experience I have been fortunate enough to work for some good companies, but TheHomeMag exemplifies what it’s like to work for a GREAT company! Six years ago I was hired as the Marketing Director for Southern California; two years later I was promoted to General Manager (my current position). The opportunity for growth and advancement in this company is unlike any other. What is remarkable is the readily available access to top management. For a company this size, it is truly unique. The family style culture and the desire to collaborate truly makes TheHomeMag one of the pest places to work.

Beverly Lee  Regional Publisher-Raleigh

I was fortunate enough to join the ranks of the talented group of professionals at TheHomeMag in 2014 as Publisher of the Raleigh, NC market.  To say this was one of the best decisions I have made in my career is an understatement.  The executive team has given me the room to grow and flourish in my role here.  Hard work is always recognized and applauded by top leadership and support is always available when needed.  Our company culture is truly special and I've never experienced anything quite like it.  We have a true sense of family from the local level, to our corporate headquarters, and all throughout our markets nationwide.  I was recently promoted to the role of Regional Publisher overseeing both the Raleigh, NC and Richmond, VA markets.  This opportunity for me to challenge myself at a higher level is exciting and rewarding.  I look forward to a long career with this amazing company!

The Sales Team shares a few reasons why they love what they do.

Lora Butler Senior Account Executive- San Antonio

I've been working for TheHomeMag for the past 8 years.  I've spent my entire career in print sales and was very excited when I was presented with this opportunity.  TheHomeMag has lived up to all I expected it to be and more.  Having a product to sell that has been well thought out and proven success has created a dream situation for me.  To be able to go out and help businesses meet their revenue goals while making a very good living myself has been incredibly rewarding. Also, I've built some wonderful relationships with TheHomeMag reps across the country.  We have some true talent and the company culture of sharing ideas and information has helped me grow as a sales rep.  I can't say enough good things about TheHomeMag. I'm glad to work for this company and hope to be for a very long time.

Carmen Crandell Account Executive- Southwest Florida

I've been working as an Account Executive for TheHomeMag Magazine for the past 7 years and haven't regretted even one moment of my decision to come work for the #1 Home Improvement magazine in the USA! This company allows me to be my unique self, and because of that I have great relationships with my clients, awesome relationships with my co-workers, and the freedom to grow my book of business at a rapid pace.TheHomeMag is extremely family friendly. I have 3 children of my own and TheHomeMag has allowed me the freedom to not only raise them while working, but also to keep my family financially stable. There is never a dull day working here! I have participated in a video series titled " A Day In The Life Of A THM Salesperson" which was a blast filming, and is used as part of training new salespeople to the company. We have a lot of fun here at TheHomeMag, and I plan on retiring here well into my old age.

David Perrino Account Executive- Philadelphia

I've been working in the Marketing & Advertising industry for over 30 years and have never enjoyed the camaraderie nor support the way I have with TheHomeMag. Since my first day here the community was welcoming and supportive beyond belief.  To this day I have developed relationships with other seasoned professionals - both publishers, Graphic Designers and Account Execs all over the country.  l interact with them weekly and we uplift, support and sustain each other. TheHomeMag is like working for family. And myself, being as high energy and out there as I am, am glad to be accepted into the bunch. I love it here!!

Learn about our Franchising Opportunities

The available markets today are very limited and will be offered only to those who are qualified, ambitious, and driven by an entrepreneurial spirit to thrive in an existing best-in-class system. If you have the vision to see yourself in this role, then you owe it to yourself to learn more about becoming the next Publisher of TheHomeMag®.

Glen Grundy  Publisher- Salt Lake City & Portland

In August 2013, I purchased TheHomeMag franchise for Salt Lake City, Utah and was ready to begin selling our launch magazine in May 2014. We fought hard through 2014 to grow our client base, and by April 2015 had reached profitability. We since have maintained steady double-digit growth year-upon-year. In 2015, I was given the opportunity to expand my own footprint to Portland Oregon, where we recruited, trained and launched our first magazine in April 2016.

My previous career was 28 years in the Engineering Sales field. I owned 5 franchises, out of a footprint of 110 national franchises, in South Africa. We were very sales driven, but I can honestly say that in comparing TheHomeMag with my previous company, TheHomeMag support in training and franchise operations is FAR superior to what I had previously received. TheHomeMag has afforded me and my family a good and stable platform for our life here in the US. I even proudly sponsor some of my son's sports teams, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all TheHomeMag has given us.

Mark Matrazzo Publisher- Jacksonville & Daytona

Back in 2006 I dove in head first and launched the TheHomeMag Jacksonville. The core belief at TheHomeMag is that we are in business to grow business. This career choice has proven not only be rewarding financially but also has been extremely gratifying because of our ability to make a difference in so many of our clients lives.

With a best in class brand, top-notch support staff, and ongoing training, your chances of succeeding at TheHomeMag are unequaled.

In my past career I was a restaurateur, where working 100-hour workweeks were commonplace. TheHomeMag introduced me to those 2 days a week we call a weekend, you know where you relax and spend time with family and friends. I am extremely thankful for that introduction and for being a part of TheHomeMag family!

People, product, and process… it checks all the boxes. Now 12 years later I have launched my second magazine in Daytona and am never looking back.

Amanda Vanden Boomen Publisher- TheHomeMag Minnesota

We joined TheHomeMag team in 2017 because we were previously customers and fans of the product itself. Coming from the home improvement world, we were impressed with the results TheHomeMag provided for our growing bathroom remodeling company.

Publishing was a brand new venture for us, but being entrepreneurial spirits we were intrigued by the potential return on investment from owning a branch of TheHomeMag ourselves. After meeting with the corporate team, it became immediately clear that with their tremendous leadership and clearly outlined methods, that we had the support system we would need to venture into this new industry.

We launched our first issue in March of 2017 following the high energy, high activity model that TheHomeMag teaches, and are proud to say we were producing a profitable magazine within a year.

We are grateful for the opportunity TheHomeMag has provided us, and look forward to growing with the company!

I have been working at TheHomeMag full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have been in marketing & advertising for just about 16 years. I have always been successful, however TheHomeMag has given me an opportunity like no other. They diligently work to provide all the proper tools necessary to make your career in this industry more successful than any other company out there. They are extremely supportive and the amazing magazine that we publish is delivered as it is stated and there is never a loop hole. The results for my clients are like no other publication I have ever worked for.

    Cons

The only Con is yourself! You have the potential to eat endless amounts of income. Nobody is stopping you to be as successful as you want to be.

    Advertising Account Executive Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Camarillo, CA
    Declined Offer
    Negative Experience

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at TheHomeMag (Camarillo, CA) in October 2017.

    Interview

In person interview with TheHomeMag. The interviewer sized me up in a split second, and started insulting me over and over, it was beyond abnormal and abnoxious. I felt like I had been assaulted. Worst experience at an interview in my life!
I couldn’t get out of that maze of a little place they call an office fast enough! I drove home very upset, and I’m not the type to get easily rattled. I have a strong hunch that the main reason the the interviewer treated me so abusive from the start has to do with my ethnic background, because I was asked about my ethnicity in the interview. Nobody deserves to be mistreated and discriminated the way I was while interviewing with TheHomeMag.

    Reasons for Declining

I was not there long enough
I got up and left because I was being verbally harassed
