I have been working at Tootsie Roll full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Treated like an adult. Expected to do your work without productivity standards. Given multiple chances to improve in your role. Anyone who says that they were unfairly treated is clearly a poor employee and an exception. Lowest turnover company I am aware of.

    Cons

Low turnover results in few promotions. When I was hired I was told never to expect a promotion and I would be happy. I was also told my pay would never be redlined, so promotions were not as critical. True no internet at any of our desks including executives EXCEPT for the sites you need for your job. If you want to surf for fun you do have to use one of six open computers in the middle of the office. Pay and bonus based on seniority not merit.

    Advice to Management

Keep the culture intact. Job is not for everyone, but it is what makes the company special.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3+ weeks. I interviewed at Tootsie Roll in September 2016.

    Interview

I was referred to the job by a former co-worker of mine who had been recently hired. I forwarded my resume to hr late Thursday night and by noon Friday I had an interview scheduled for the following week. I took the altitude tests and talked with the department manager. Was offered to continue the hiring process as soon as a background check and drug and fitness tests were complete. Drug and fitness tests were completed within an hour and now I'm waiting for the background check to continue. The aptitude test was the Ramsay EIT (electronics and instrumentation technician test). The test was scored that day and the manager was able to go over my score and how I rated compared to the current employees in the department.

    Interview Questions

    Negotiation

There really wasn't much negotiation due to the job being the pay I wanted and the shift I wanted along with being a union position.
