Sales Manager

Everyone tells me to use a recruiting agency to help find jobs. How does this even work? How can i actually sign up to speak with a recruiter on the phone and tell them what i'm looking for? I've uploaded my resume and have applied to jobs on every agencies website such as Actalent, Robert Half, Korn Ferry, Aston Carter, Randstad, Vaco, Toptal, Kelly, Insight Global. My LinkedIn is open and filled with keywords, my resume is on indeed, dice, careerbuilders, etc. and i still get 0 calls/emails.

I applied online. I interviewed at Toptal (United States) in Aug 2022

Starts with an english verification video call where someone from a country where english isn't the primary language verifies if you can speak english or not.

The second call is technical. They basically give you 30 minutes to build a simple web page that contains a list of data.

The third part and the part that should be criminal is they make you do a 10 hour take home project. This is followed by a video call where you present your work. The whole time I am presenting my work the interviewer is asking about why this edge case wasn't covered, why that edge case wasn't covered, why aren't there any tests, why didn't I build my own CRUD API instead of using an off the shelf Firebase API, why isn't there any styling (the requirements explicitly said to not spend time on styling). Its simple, you pay for what you get. In this case, you made me work for you for free. What more do you want?

Note this was supposed to be a "front-end" project. However, you are still required to build the backend and one will not be provided for you.

I can't speak for those outside of the US but if you are based in the US, trust me that this isn't worth your time.

Build a CRUD application for bike rentals.

Traditional talent models are under serious pressure. They represent a now-antiquated philosophy for pursuing opportunity: hire a pool of qualified individuals to respond to the needs of the business. Hire more as the business grows. But “hire and retain” just isn’t working anymore, and the struggle is redefining how companies will drive objectives in the future. Complicating things further, many staffing firms have adopted a “throw spaghetti at the wall” approach, rather than providing the specific, high-quality talent companies demand.
