I have been working at Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The time off and benefits are good. Pay is competitive and higher than land based jobs.

    Cons

time away from family can be hard, but that comes with the territory of working offshore. The company is going thru the downturn of the oilfield. I am hopeful that things will turn around along with more competitive salary.

    Advice to Management

Remember the "little guy". It seems in recent years the corporate office has forgotten the people that are out on the rigs. Cutting travel and pay incentives isn't the way to make the employees happy.

    Interview

HR is horrible. I had to fight to get passed HR as they have such a high turn over. I originally had a network contact with my future boss and dealing with HR delayed my hiring for 9 months. Be careful who you interview with. There are some supervisors who are cool and some who are just there to make sure you know you know nothing.

Coming from college, I was just happy to get a job.
