I worked at TravelCenters of America (More than 10 years)
I really enjoyed this job. Most of the truckers were great.. Could listen to there old war stories all night.. Management would send me all the customers that were a little """""displaced""" I didn't mind cuz most either just wanted to complain.. the ones that had a legit complaint I would listen to tell them what they wanted to hear, tell a few jokes, fix what ever was wrong with the vehicle they came with, tell a few more jokes and sell them something.. Problem fixed!!!!!
As usual Management would get carried away with their shop safety.. issues that they are trying to impose, Becomes a safety issue in its self!!! Trying to adhere to what they wish... you end up creating an unsafe conditions!!!! when you get all them Micro Managers together and they start trying to make a name for them self's, Most have never been in a shop let alone out of the little fantasy cyber world they live in... they have you wearing 3 pairs of safety glasses at the same time with ear plugs and ear muffs so you really cannot hear or see if your going to get ran over by a big truck...
Advice to Management
Get away from that computer screen and spend some time in the shop.. Learn some people skills listen to what customers have to say!!!!!!!
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at TravelCenters of America (North Baltimore, OH) in June 2015.
I was contacted by recruiter. She went over position qualifications, expectations, position salary/benefits. We discussed company requirements from a-z so no issues if we were to get offer (background, financial). She sent a win-win assessment. I had couple hour interview with GM. We both were interviewing each other for the required relationship needed for us to be successful and efficient. We went over assessment. I then was scheduled for interview with FM, FM Trainee, and GM. The interview was only about hour. We discussed a few management situations, but really got a feeling if position was good fit all of us moving forward. I received call from recruiter with offer of employment (They understood other offers were on table and responded appropriately). I finished paperwork for backgrounds, etc. The formal offer is to be here in morning by fedex. We talked about start date (and set it) and setting up training necessary. The whole process to this point has been 10 days.
