Mission: Our mission is to help the pets we all love get the veterinary care they need. At Trupanion we offer a collaborative, casual, and pet-friendly environment where everyone is encouraged to be themselves.
The Trupanion team has been taking care of pet owners for over a decade by offering simple, fair, and affordable medical insurance for pets. We want to help take care of your pet, and know pet owners want to work with companies that mirror their own goals and passions.
Each day, Darryl Rawlings leads more than 500 pet-loving professionals in the U.S. and Canada to one shared purpose and a singular goal: to help the pets we love receive the best veterinary care. It’s the passion driving everything we do, enabling dogs and cats to lead long, healthy and happy lives.
His passion for pet health runs deep. When he was 14, his family dog needed surgery that could have lengthened her life for another 12 years. The cost was beyond his parents’ means and they left the veterinary hospital without her. He vowed that someday pets would have even better medical insurance than people do. And Trupanion has fulfilled that promise with medical insurance for cats and dogs that is remarkably better than most human health insurance.
We don’t just believe in the human-pet bond, we live it – every day. In our completely pet-friendly office, we are surrounded by dogs and cats who inspire us to do great work. We have two puppy play areas in our building and pet beds and blankets at every cubicle to keep our pets warm and happy. When we say the office has “gone to the dogs,” we mean it literally and with the most love possible.
We will offer customizable deductibles so you can afford to insure your pet, no matter your budget.
We will reimburse 90% of covered costs with no hidden fees, no "reasonable costs," and no payout limits.
We are pet lovers too, and we want to be the best we can be. Let us know what you think! We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Trupanion offers a simple, customizable pet insurance policy with 90% coverage for diagnostic tests, surgeries, medications, hospital stays, and alternative therapies for the treatment of injuries and illnesses.* The Trupanion policy includes coverage of hereditary and congenital conditions with no payout limits per incident, per year, or over the lifetime of the pet.
Trupanion's policy is underwritten by the American Pet Insurance Company (US) and by Omega General Insurance Company (Canada), which has earned a Financial Stability Rating of A, Exceptional, from Demotech, Inc. Trupanion is a founding member of the North American Pet Health Insurance Association (NAPHIA), demonstrating a commitment to high standards and transparency in all actions and products.

Advice to Management
Change is great and I love the fact that we are evolving, but I would like to see a system in place that would allow another look before jumping in head first. Great intentions, but there can be a lack of perspective if you implement changes to quickly.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Trupanion.
I interviewed for about 3 hours, and met with five different people on the team. Being highly qualified for the position, I was very much looking forward to this interview. A few of the people I met were very pleasant and we had productive conversations. Others were very unpleasant and it felt like they were specifically looking for ways to trip me up with their questions, including highly specific questions such as "how would I help department X achieve Y goals". Well, I need to learn a lot more about department X and what you are doing and settle into the position before I start writing out plans, so at this point the answer is "I have no idea".
The person who would have been my boss in this position made me feel very welcome and excited about the prospect of adding me to the team, so the canned rejection email (without any constructive feedback or reasoning) from HR about a week later was a real blow.
