I worked at Truwest Credit Union full-time (More than 5 years)
They strived to promote from within the company. Many of the management/upper management individuals lead by example. They promoted a meaningful corporate culture which you don't see a lot with organizations this size.
I did observe favoritism while at the credit union stemming down from upper management. There was also a higher-than-average employee turnaround which indicated to me that there was a lack of employee job satisfaction.
Advice to Management
Focus on employee retention, promoting/hiring people that are the best candidates rather than the "favored" candidates.
