I worked at UK Trade and Investment full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Incredible, dedicated colleagues, unrivaled networking opportunities with unique combination of a government organization but strictly focused on business.

    Cons

As a government organization they can be reluctant to change anything quickly. Salaries are relatively low given the demands, but the networking opportunities are a nice trade off.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at UK Trade and Investment.

    Interview

Applied via UK Embassy website, which was fairly straightforward. Required cover letter, resume, etc. I received a phone screen from their HR department, asking about my general interest and qualifications. That person set up a final interview with a panel for a week later via Skype.

The panel interview was easy content-wise, but they were very late to start and had technical problems throughout. I got the impression that they were rushing and didn't have much to share about the position. I wasn't too affected by it, but I didn't feel I had much of a chance given the circumstances. In retrospect, I would've preferred a re-schedule.

Questions were all as expected. They were mostly about my resume, how I would react to difficult coworkers and the such.
