I worked at URJ Greene Family Camp full-time (Less than a year)
You spend the summer living and working within a tight-knit community. While the salary is very low, it is a great opportunity to gain experience working with kids of different ages and learning skills in different areas. If you are a college student or a recent high school graduate, it is a great opportunity to make a transition from living at home to living and learning in a community.
Your salary is very low, but you get to participate in all activities, have free room and board, all meals are included, you get nights off, and have a ton of fun.
I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at URJ Greene Family Camp (Dallas, TX) in April 2011.
As a camp associated with the URJ, you must first fill out the online application that is the standard for all of the camps. Some camps might have additional questions or forms relevant to their business. After filling out the application you will be contacted for a phone interview where you will be asked questions about your skills, interests, and relevant experience. Some individuals are offered the job on the spot, others will be called back within a month--depending on how close it is to the session start.
