It is an excellent credential for career advancement, and the hours and workload are very reasonable. Having the opportunity to work for a federal judge, especially at the beginning of my legal, is a wonderful opportunity. Most importantly, the job opens doors in both the public and private sectors that would not otherwise be available to a young attorney.
The job pays a fraction of what law school peers will earn at big law firms. While the salary is obviously a drawback, you will be able to make some of this money back if you chose to go to big law after your clerkship with a nice fat signing bonus.

I applied in-person. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at US District Court, Southern District of Florida (Miami, FL) in March 2012.
Was hired two years in advance and interviewed by all law clerks, court room deputy, and the Judge himself. Very lega-question heavy
