I have been working at Ultra Electronics – 3 Phoenix as an intern (Less than a year)
I was given a beautiful office on their chantilly campus, with a public bus route that stopped close by that I took daily. I ended up sharing it with another intern but even with two people it felt spacious. I sat down daily with my supervisor and came to him with questions about my work, he was very responsive. I was trusted with lab access and had an opportunity to engage in dialogue with a senior engineer in charge of the design of our project. Even got to meet a senior VP who came in weekly to talk about my work. The company also brought in a guest lecture every two weeks to talk about an aspect of their work. IT was very responsive in helping me set up and clear some licensing issues I had with using Matlab. I was allowed to take a day off for a quick weekend vacation. Project and work given to me was well proportioned to the time given- I finished the assigned work and documentation almost exactly around the time of my last day with the company. Good coffee.
Most other interns avoided socializing outside their offices, outside of the occasional lunch together. I was occasionally asked to consider work late. Long time workers sounded stressed, and I got the feeling that the company had bitten off more than it could chew as with the particular contract it was working on. Still, the company put forth it's best face even in these stressful conditions
Advice to Management
You're doing everything right from my end. keep that attention you gave to me with all your new hires and interns, and you'll make career employees out of them.
I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Ultra Electronics – 3 Phoenix (Chantilly, VA) in February 2013.
Weeks of interviewing and reference checks
None, offer was fixed. Lower than other companies but more flexible.
