Underground Elephant set out to change the way agencies and businesses connect with people in 2008, and hasn’t stopped growing since. UE was the first direct response marketing company to leverage emerging digital channels and innovative proprietary software to outflank competitors entrenched in search and email. Thanks to cutting edge internal lead generation and SaaS platform development, UE is one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the country. With a strong emphasis on company culture and collaboration, UE continues to lead the tech charge in San Diego, bring home awards, and positively influence the local community.
Your physical and mental health are important, and Underground Elephant aims to provide benefits for all full-time employees that cover both. We offer health, dental, vision, and life and AD&D insurance, as well as voluntary accident and supplemental life insurance. Occasional company boot camps enable employees to exercise and bond with their peers simultaneously. UE also offers an employee discount for the Fit Athletic Club just across from the office and provides on-site showers and lockers for added convenience.
We’ve got breakfast covered. Come to work hungry and fill your gourd with English muffins, nuts, fresh fruit and delicious Copa Vida coffee. On Fridays, you can even treat yourself to a doughnut to get your weekend started properly. UE also wants to make sure our elephants stay well hydrated. Quench your thirst with an ice cold Red Bull or coconut water, or join your fellow UE employees at the Watering Hole during bar hours for a glass of whiskey or a Ballast Point beer, fresh from the tap.
Our office is located in the trendy East Village area of downtown San Diego. Employees can (literally) walk across the street to Petco Park to enjoy a baseball game after work in the summer, or grab drinks and food with friends at one of the many bars and restaurants within walking distance. At least once a month, we set work aside for a few hours to enjoy a community outing as a company. Whether it's a happy hour at one of our favorite downtown bars, or an opportunity to volunteer at a local charity, it's a great release and perk. On days when it's harder to get out of the office, UE employees can post up in the park, the picnic table, the sunken living room, the library, or the bar for a change of scenery.
Work hard-play hard. Underground Elephant believes in taking time off to refresh & recharge. We offer unlimited paid time off for exempt employees and ten paid days per year for non-exempt employees, as well as paid holidays and sick time for everyone.
Our professional development perks include 401k matching, opportunities to write for the company blog, and reimbursement for qualified professional development activities. Our Forum Program enables cross-functional team building and collaboration, and UE's promote-from-within policy gives employees opportunities for professional advancement within the company. UE also encourages employee retention through initiatives such as the Anniversary Rewards Program, which gives employees the opportunity to select a unique local experience each year to celebrate their employment anniversary.
A Letter from Our CEO
We’re a progressive tech company, knuckling down at the intersection of software, community, and business development.
What does that mean?
It means that everyday is a new opportunity: to hone your craft, to do something creative, to challenge yourself, build on your great ideas and think up even better ones, and to learn skills not listed on your resume. That’s the nature of collaboration, which underpins everything we do at Underground Elephant.
This company is our vehicle, and it will take us wherever we want to go.
Jason Kulpa, CEO
Every piece of our software is engineered to maximize ROI for our clients, use the least amount of internal labor, and to penetrate new markets rapidly. Our advanced technologies keep UE in step with consumer trends—and ALWAYS one step ahead of the competition. Our high performance stems from the ability to tackle challenges faster, find breakthroughs across channels, and launch new marketing strategies quicker than our competitors. All of the tools we use are proprietary and have been created to solve complex challenges that we have encountered while pushing for superior performance. Seamless synergy between our marketing, development, and engineering teams has enabled us to create solutions engineered to outperform.
"Being with the company for more than 2 years now, UE means a lot to me! From starting out as their first intern during college, to continuing with the company full time,UE has been essential to my professional growth. It's been amazing to see how far UEhas come since I've been here. Nothing beats the amazing people I get to work with on a daily basis as well as the knowledge and experience I have gained personally." - Madelyn Y., Sales
"UE is a workplace full of energy and opportunities. When people ask me why I love working at UE - it's the exceptional people I work with and the many challenges you learn to deal with every day that makes you even better. It has that feeling of 'being part of something great.' UE has allowed me to grow with my career development and motivated me to continue to learn and get better every day. It's an organization that empowers and maximizes an individual's full potential." - Jovel L., Software Development
"Underground Elephant is a family. More than a corporation and more than a company, we are trying to be a family. You don't get to pick your family, with so many different personalities for 8+ hours a day. You have to get along with each other, but respect and collaboration is imperative. The culture makes it easier to do that." - Chris G., IT
I worked at Underground Elephant full-time (More than a year)
-High growth opportunity, still in start up mentality
-Great Business Model
-Freedom to be creative- Use your own methods to sell and make a customer happy
-Very family-esque culture
-This job isn't for everyone, expect high dials, expect bad days, expect overcoming objections. You make your own paycheck.
-There is high growth but only the consistently best will reach it. Don't think you're getting a promotion just because you have a few good months. Prove your worth.
Advice to Management
Try to follow through with business projects and objectives, you can't accurately plan if the goals change every month.
Interviewed with HR first, they we're really nice and gave me a fun brain teaser to start. Asked me general personal questions to see if I'd be a good fit for HR. Then met with the Sales Manager. Her was really nice and was able to answer all my questions about the job and expectations.
