I have been working at Union Electric Steel full-time (Less than a year)
Dynamic workplace for technical, sales and administrative employees. Many product lines, manufactured in 6 countries and servicing several different industries. UES is rapidly changing its business structure and diversifying to stabilize itself in an uncertain manufacturing economy. There is no end of opportunity for a motivated industrial professional.
With great change often comes great confusion. Plans change from the boardroom quickly. Benefits package is very "competitive", unlike compensation which is above average.
Advice to Management
Try not to appear indecisive by communicating plans (and changes) more clearly and frequently.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Union Electric Steel (Carnegie, PA) in May 2011.
The interview process was straight forward and easy. I was greeted when I arrived and instructed where to go and who to meet. The interview was casual and not to upfront and intimidating. The HR department was very good, and the other members of the board, ended up being my boss was great as well. They let me know within the next few hours of them hiring me. All around great company and experience.
