Unispace – Why Work For Us?

Unispace is a global design firm with integrated project delivery capabilities.

Born from an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to do things differently, Unispace was founded in 2010 by a group of design and construction professionals from around the globe. Each brought specialized local knowledge, experience and talent to the table to craft a new methodology that continues to challenge the industry status quo.

Since that day, Unispace has grown swiftly. With globally recognized talent collaborating on local projects, we seamlessly unite strategy, design, project management and delivery to achieve real, measurable results for our clients.

Our people are at the heart of everything we do: we’re one global team with a fearless sense of possibility and the freedom to challenge convention.

Agile, open and collaborative

Working hand in hand from a project’s inception, our strategists, designers and construction professionals inspire each other to craft solutions to the unique challenges of today’s built environment. We don’t believe in unnecessary hierarchy: our culture is open, collaborative and built on talent and experience that spans the globe.

Our Values

Unispace’s DNA is fresh, energetic, courageous, humble and loyal, with these values inherent in everything that we do – just as the Unispace founders envisioned in 2010.

We currently have 39 studios located across 18 countries and are committed to investing in our people and their professional development for the long term.

Embracing diversity

Our people are at the heart of everything we do. Our culture is open, collaborative and built on talent and experience that spans the globe. Our success is underpinned by our culture and our core values of Fresh, Energetic, Courageous, Humble and Loyal. We believe that only when we create a diverse, inclusive environment can our people perform at their full potential. It enables us to provide diverse, fresh perspectives to our clients, be courageous in challenging the conventions of the way we work, live and learn and be authentic in what we say and who we are.

Supporting our people’s development

To meet the needs of our clients and support our people to continue to grow and develop, investment in learning and development is an ongoing commitment from Unispace leadership. This is enhanced by initiatives to engage with local communities, as well as opportunities to network externally and create relationships within the design and construction industry.

Flexible working

As champions of challenging the way we work, learn and live, Unispace walks the talk when it comes to supporting flexible work arrangements for our employees. We actively promote work/life balance and support flexible working in its many forms.

The way people work has changed, which is why we believe it’s time to turn the traditional workplace design model upside down. We deliver a seamless methodology with globally recognized talent collaborating on local projects from strategy to design and delivery. We call it Think Create Make and here’s how it transforms our clients’ experience.

Think | Global intelligence-led strategy

Organizations and their people attain the most value from workplaces built on strategy and research. We partner with clients to ask the hard questions, challenge convention, apply intelligence from one country and discipline to another, and ultimately develop solutions for a more profitable, effective and human business future.

Create | Design-driven solutions

Design brings people together to create ideas and better business outcomes. At Unispace, we set egos aside to create environments that engage, empower and inspire the people who inhabit them. Together with our clients, we translate strategy and business aspirations into spaces that unlock the potential of people, allowing them to do their best, most creative work.

Make | Risk-free delivery

The conventional process of translating design into a built environment is broken; delays and cost-overruns are almost inevitable and are often borne by the client. Unispace offers a risk-free delivery model, through a seamless and end-to-end integration of design and construction teams. Our projects conform to budget from the onset and, not only meet schedules, but can be delivered faster and with costs controlled at every point.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Unispace (New York, NY).

    Interview

I had three interviews in the course of two weeks: one on the phone with the recruiter, another on the phone with the hiring manager, and an in-person coffee meeting with the hiring manager.

After three very engaged interviews the communications line went completely silent, and despite multiple check-ins from me and follow ups, for the next three weeks I heard nothing. When I finally followed up once again, they told me that they're filling the position at the offices of another city (i.e. "thanks but no thanks") (even though during the interviews, they explicitly said they prefer to fill it in my city). Seems like had I not continued to pester them, they would have never bothered to follow up.

I don't expect responses to all my inquiries, but after speaking with someone several times (and I know their candidate pool at that point was quite small), it's not at all unreasonable to expect an honest update on the situation. All in all, for a company that prides itself on client engagement, to be so quickly dropped off of communications, that is, after THREE INTERVIEWS, felt gross and frankly, unprofessional.

If this is what other warnings on GD refer to as the company's "start-up" mentality, I would say thanks but no thanks.
