I worked at University of British Columbia full-time (Less than a year)
None, except had some great colleagues. Con - most of them left when I did.
My first clue as to how much this company valued its employees was discovering that benefits did not go into effect for 2 months after my start date. The study I was assigned to had data locks constantly. Huge backlog of data in order to meet the deadlines. Reports constantly late - not a norm for me. Expense reports expected to be done weekly (and part of performance review) - I was lucky to get them done every 3 weeks. Lack of empathy or understanding from management. No support whatsoever. Do NOT accept a bonus from this company - when you leave by month 5 you will need to pay it back. Short term disability does not kick in until after you've been there a year, fyi. Consistently worked 50 - 60 hours a week without management taking notice or realizing that workload was too heavy. Many colleagues worked on the weekends to try to keep up, but there was no way to keep up. When you leave the company, the benefits you waited 2 months for will end the weekend after you leave - not until the end of the month like so many other companies.
Advice to Management
Current management needs to be overhauled and re-trained on every level. Accept input from employees. Assess the amount of late reports and expenses and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I and all my colleagues there were very experienced CRAs, and for all of us to have consistently late reports really says volumes. Your employees deserve a much better work environment.
I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at University of British Columbia.
I was interviewed by a panel of 3 scientist. I was asked a series of technical questions related to the research project. I was asked to give a detailed explanation of PCR, qPCR etc.. The usual behavioral questions were also brought up...give an example of a challenge you overcame etc.. Fairly easy overall.
