University of San Francisco – Why Work For Us?

Who We Are

The University of San Francisco — a premier Jesuit university — is a reflection of the inclusive, inspirational, innovative city that surrounds it. We provide students from all backgrounds an education that is intensely personal and intellectually demanding.

For us, reason, religion, science, and spirituality are complementary. Our students see the world with a sense of awe and wonder, and with a curiosity for answers to the world’s most complex questions.

Our Core Values

At USF, it’s about more than giving graduates a personal advantage. It’s about inspiring them to go forth and set the world on fire, to create a more humane, just, and sustainable world.

Commitment to Diversity

Our strength lies in our diversity. Our students have a unique opportunity to see the world from a variety of perspectives, and they’re better off because of it.

Vision & Mission

Jesuit tradition defines USF’s approach to learning and our commitment to welcoming students of every faith and no faith. Our vision and mission are the foundations of our university, and reflect the shared views of our institution.

Vision

The University of San Francisco will be internationally recognized as a premier Jesuit Catholic, urban university with a global perspective that educates leaders who will fashion a more humane and just world.

Mission

The core mission of the university is to promote learning in the Jesuit Catholic tradition. The university offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional students the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as persons and professionals, and the values and sensitivity necessary to be men and women for others.

The university will distinguish itself as a diverse, socially responsible learning community of high quality scholarship and academic rigor sustained by a faith that does justice. The university will draw from the cultural, intellectual, and economic resources of the San Francisco Bay Area and its location on the Pacific Rim to enrich and strengthen its educational programs.

Passion for Justice

At the University of San Francisco, making the world a better place is at the core of every curriculum.

Nursing students provide treatment to low-income patients in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, architecture majors design and rebuild homes in Nicaragua and education students lead elementary school classrooms in Belize.

That commitment to social justice — a calling greater than personal achievement — is what makes the University of San Francisco truly unique. It’s not part of a political agenda or lip service.

This isn’t volunteering. This is learning. It changed me forever."
-Andrew Shane '13
