I have been working at University of Tennessee full-time (More than a year)
Beautiful campus and surrounding area/city, most professors are nice and willing to talk whenever they aren't busy, stipend is okay, there is the perfect amount of hands-on/hands-off attention given to graduate students. As long as a graduate student is making progress and doing okay, all that professors really require are status updates. If a graduate student needs assistance, all he/she needs to do is ask, and professors are willing to accommodate.
Overall excellent experience so far.
The actual overall UT administration can be politically correct at times, but not anywhere near as much as some other places.
Advice to Management
Keep letting departments manage themselves the way they are right now. Make sure to place an emphasis on both teaching and research.
I applied through college or university. I interviewed at University of Tennessee.
Contacted me for interview and guided me through conference call set-up. Pleasant experience with all involved. Several people were on the call and all asked questions. They appeared to listen intently and give me consideration. Easy and smooth process. Should have let me known sooner that I was not moving through to the next phase.
