Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

      First call with recruiter who shared some details on company, ways of working (mostly remote), and process. Salary was wide open which didn't give reassurance that they has actually considered budgeting for the role or weren't in a position to share same. The next stage was a call with 3 people from the org, including the hiring manager. Perhaps it's personal, but having the first opportunity to speak with the hiring manager - the individual perhaps most important seeing how much one would work with them etc - in a shared 3 person interview wasn't overly pleasant. The interview overall came across a bit interrogative, rather than interested to learn more about my experience, and ask thoughtful questions. After a one-hour interview, it was challenging to get a sense of the hiring manager and if we could work well together. Throughout the call it was clear that the team hadn't given consideration to the exact role, as many times it seemed unclear what exactly they expected the growth PM to do, aside from securing users and removing pressure from outbound marketing.
