VML is a great creative agency with a strong digital focus and a friendly, collaborative culture. They've really made great strides in recent years in raising their profile in the industry, and I found that work/life balance was better at VML than many other agencies as well. They've also got a really solid benefits package.
There's was a bit of a clique-y Kansas City thing going on in the NYC office, where a high percentage of senior leadership had KC roots.
I also saw the culture change from one that was relatively indifferent to awards, to one that was utterly obsessed with them. I understand that winning awards is great for new business and recruiting, but the single-minded focus became overbearing.
Advice to Management
Keep the focus on doing great work that impacts clients' business - awards aren't the be-all and end-all.
I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at VML (Kansas City, MO) in June 2017.
Was long but fun. The interviewers were friendly and asked relevant questions. I appreciated that the interviewers were both developers so they knew what they were asking. I was ready for a white-boarding session but I was not asked to do live coding in front of them.
VML named no. 5 to @adage Agency A-List! Here's to continuing the momentum.
