Behavioral Health

The goal of the Behavioral Health Unit is to help patients learn appropriate and safe coping skills to manage themselves and others within the community. It also helps patients replace socially unacceptable behaviors with ones that help them interact with others more successfully. Patients must receive medical clearance from an emergency department in order to be admitted to the Behavioral Health Unit.

The treatment team in the unit includes psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, activity therapists and mental health technicians, and focuses on developing customized interdisciplinary treatment plans for each patient. Each plan considers the patient’s therapeutic, medical and physical, recreational, social, emotional and cultural needs. After developing the plan, the team and the patient monitor progress toward their goals, and incorporates any changes that may arise. An attending physician will evaluate each patient's need for medication, and will discuss medications with the patient and appropriate family members before treatment begins. Physicians and the nursing staff will collect information as treatment continues.

I worked at Valley Hospital full-time

great benefits and pay, self scheduling, great peers to work with

no pyxus, micro-managed, guilty until proven innocent (by management), no consistency, new policies are typically spread by "word of mouth" which is neither effective or professional, nurses are secretaries, work on copiers, numerous responsibilities and mangement seems to give us more responsibilities

    Advice to Management

Avoid micro-management. It leaves staff with a sense of inadequacy. Punitive environment needs to become one of award good performances. Talk with staff rather than simply dictate.

Interviewed by a person from the department, then again by HR. Very simple, run of the mill interview questions.
