The Clinical Research Department is a small but mighty team working to bring cutting edge treatments and opportunities to our patients and community. The research team juggles clinical trials and projects of varying complexity in a variety of specialties and service areas, wearing many different hats to get studies open and enrolling. A major focus for the research team is the cancer program, supporting both patients and the program's accreditation for the Commission on Cancer. Through the National Cancer Institute (NCI), a network of clinical trials are available for large and small institutions alike. As our patients move through the diagnostic and planning phases of their cancer care journey, the research team works with the treating physicians to determine if the opportunity to join a clinical trial may be an option. Coordinating evaluations and care with colleagues throughout VMC, such as Infusion Center, Radiology, Laboratory, and cardiopulmonary testing. Congratulations to Tacie Reger, ARNP in the NICU and Recipient of the March of Dimes Heroes in Action Award! Here is what her nomination said: Tacie Reger is the most outstanding APP I have worked with. She is the ultimate patient advocate. She is clinically one of the most talented clinicians in our group. She is meticulous with her care, decisions, and procedure skills. Therefore, her clinical skills are her greatest qualification. Not only clinically, but Tacie is an excellent leader. She inspires our team to do better. She never fails to join and lead special working groups. She is kind and thoughtful. She is adored by all staff. She truly sees our potential to improve and do our best and this translates into better patient care and teamwork. I cannot think of a provider that single handedly improves the care we provide to so many fragile infants. Children's Services Manager Bo Scholzen says "Tacie is an ARNP for our NICU and is the Site Supervisor for the NPs, AAPs and PAs. She is intelligent, dedicated and elevates nursing practice in Valley's NICU. She is simply AMAZING!
