I have been working at Vance-Granville Community College full-time (More than 5 years)
It is a good place to work. My coworkers are friendly and are always willing to help. Class size is fairly small, so I have time to develop a great rapport with my students. There are frequent breaks and holidays that would normally not be observed at other places of employment. The college fosters a culture of continuous improvement and constantly provides professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
Many of the administrative processes and systems are unclear, unnecessarily time consuming, constantly changing, or nonexistent which makes it difficult to improve them or even to follow them. The college has hit a slump in enrollment which has endangered some positions.
Advice to Management
Its always best to make sure your employees knows your processes and systems and to make them clear by writing them down in a location where they can be easily accessed. Also, please don't confuse continuous change with continuous improvement. Just because we keep changing a process doesn't mean we are improving it.
I applied online. I interviewed at Vance-Granville Community College.
I applied online and initially interviewed with a panel, including the department chair. At this stage, I was required to do a teaching demonstration for the panel. I was invited back to interview with the Vice President. Overall, it was a positive experience, and they were very accommodating in the scheduling of my interview. The questions were pretty standard for a teaching position.
