I have been working at Virginia Beach full-time

Can get every other Friday off in certain departments. My department is pretty flexible and good about letting us take care of our families. 40 hours a week. Not a terrible place to work at all.

Prospects for promotion are relatively dim. As of Oct 8 there is a hiring freeze. No bonuses or raises other than those which barely, or don't, keep up with inflation and rising healthcare costs Politics

    Advice to Management

Other industries in the area have fallen into the same trap over time. If you don't, or are unable to, compensate good young performers they will leave. It seems there are many people with lots of experience, and new members cutting their teeth, but no one seems to stay to fill that middle career position. Listen to the advice of your Engineers. It is why you hired them. Just because they tell you something is a bad idea doesn't mean they have an agenda. Its based on experience. If you didn't realize it, they have a vested interest in the health of the City and would be happy generally to promote growth. That growth is the only thing that will apparently get them raises. They want the city to grow, but have a professional obligation to make sure it is done right and not via political favors.

    Museum Position Interview

I applied online. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Virginia Beach (Virginia Beach, VA) in June 2014.

The time it took to get a call for an interview was about 2 months. I was interviewed by several museum department directors. The questions were fairly typical of an interview (describe various work place scenarios, discuss your professional/academic achievements, etc.). It did take some time to hear back about the position (due to interview process taking longer than anyone expected) but they did keep me informed and returned my follow up phone call immediately. Everyone treated me with professional courtesy and made me feel like I would really be able to contribute to the department. I was very impressed!
