At VNSNY, we know that you and your loved ones live in the real world, dealing with all of life’s ups and downs, every day. No matter what your situation, VNSNY provides the highest quality home health care when, where and how you need it. Everything we do, from implementing new technologies and staffing our call center around the clock to offering the widest range of services for seniors in New York is designed to make each patient's experience the best it can be.

The Right Care Now

The Visiting Nurse Service of New York can provide home health care to you when you need it, where you need it. So whether you’re looking for senior care for an elderly parent, assistance making dietary and lifestyle changes after a diagnosis of diabetes or congestive heart failure, help with changing surgical dressings and caring for wounds, or physical therapy, VNSNY has the resources, the knowledge, and the expertise to deliver the right care now.

The fact is, we know that most New Yorkers don’t think about home health care until it’s needed. That’s okay. We have more than 13,000 VNSNY employees - including nurses, rehabilitation therapists, social workers, and certified home health aides—who are ready to help when you need us most.

Comfort and Safety at Home

When you or your loved one is sick, the last thing you want to do is leave home. With the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, you don’t have to. We come to your place—whether that’s a high-rise apartment on the Upper East Side, a brownstone in Brooklyn or a ranch in West Hempstead.

Our staff reflects the diversity of New York City, and we provide culturally capable care for our patients who live in the New York City metropolitan area, but are from other countries and cultures. At VNSNY we also work closely with our community, hospital, and insurance partners to create specialized services by an interprofessional team that will allow you or your loved one to remain safe and healthy at home.

The Visiting Nurse Service of New York is able to deliver the right care for many reasons, including:

1. Compassion

We understand that there is often emotional, physical and financial stress associated with using home health care. Our clinical professionals, home health aides and office staff are fully aware that you need your questions answered and your medical needs attended to. They also know it’s important to do so in a manner that makes you comfortable and helps you or your loved one live the best life possible.

2. Availability, 24/7

Whether you have planned in advance for home health care or face a crisis and need an immediate solution, we are available to you when you need us, where you need us. Our staff can be reached all day and night, all week, every day of the year, including holidays. And we have the resources to provide you with care, no matter what. For example, if your nurse is sick, you won’t go without the services you require—we can send in a back-up at a moment’s notice.

3. Understanding

We understand that you and your loved ones live in the real world, dealing with all of life’s ups and downs. We understand when your parents want to live in their own home but you can’t be with them all the time. We understand when your wife will need help getting around, bathing and taking care of her wounds after she leaves the hospital. We understand when your father is cranky because he needs to give up his favorite foods, now that he’s been diagnosed with heart failure and diabetes. No matter your situation, we understand how to provide the highest quality home health care when, where and how you need it.

4. Medical Expertise

Providing you or your loved one with the highest quality home health care is not only about having a thoughtful, friendly and caring clinician come into your home. Our staff is all of those things, and more–our clinicians are highly trained medical experts with years of experience and are experts in their specific fields. Every nurse is licensed and registered to work in New York State, and all of our nurses undergo extensive, on-going training that is specially designed to address home health care concerns. Many of our nurses are bilingual or multilingual, and we always try our best to match you with a nurse who can explain your care in the language you speak most comfortably.

5. Technology

Each of our clinicians carries a laptop computer every day, in order to provide you with the right care, when and where you need it. From your home, our nurses can confirm your plan of care, check your medications and share information with your doctor. Our unique system was designed specifically to benefit you. We lead the way with other uses of technology, including taking digital photos of wounds to email to doctors and using TeleHealth monitors to continuously keep track of patients’ vital signs.

6. Multi-cultural Sensitivity

We were the first home health care organization in New York to launch multi-cultural programs to better serve our diverse communities. Today, our staff members speak more than 50 languages, so we do our best to provide a clinician who speaks your preferred language and understands your religious and cultural traditions. Our ability to communicate with our patients, their doctors and family members helps everyone involved get the highest quality home health care services.

7. Services

Too often, home health care is misunderstood as being just for older people. We do offer more senior care services than any other home health care organization in New York—but VNSNY provides much more. We have services for pregnant women and their newborns, for children suffering from chronic illnesses and for adults of any age recovering from surgery. We provide skilled nursing care, rehabilitation therapy (physical, occupational and speech therapy), mental health counseling and, end of life and bereavement services. For more information on our many services, go to: https://www.vnsny.org/how-we-can-help/home-health-care/our-services/

8. Location

We know the city where you live as only New Yorkers do. Our clinicians typically live in the neighborhoods where they work, too, so they can help you find a pharmacy or medical supply store nearby. We serve all five boroughs of New York City—the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island—as well as Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester Counties.

9. Being #1 with Doctors and Hospitals

Our reputation with New York’s doctors and hospitals is stellar. Every day, we work with medical professionals to ensure your smooth transition from hospital to home and coordinate your Plan of Care. Doctors and hospital personnel know they can count on us to give you the highest quality home care possible—and you can count on us to be reliable, compassionate and knowledgeable.

10. Patient Satisfaction

We are committed to patient satisfaction and will do whatever is possible to accommodate your or your love one’s specific needs. And if there is a service problem, we will do everything we can to correct it quickly.

At the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, we know that our employees are our most valuable asset, so we're looking for the best people to join our team. Why work for VNSNY? We're always working to show you just what you mean to us. Here, get to know the ways we support our employees, the opportunities and benefits, the continuing education seminars, and the excitement of a career at the largest not-for-profit home health care organization in the country. VNSNY is an equal opportunity employer and gives consideration for employment to qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.

Professional Development and Advancement:

Whether you’re exploring home health care as a potential career or have years of experience and are looking for a new specialty, VNSNY offers a wide range of positions and opportunities that other clinical settings often don’t — or can’t.

As a home health care specialist in the field, your days won’t be spent in an office or on the floor of a hospital. You’ll care for your patients in their homes, where you’ll have the opportunity to build relationships and get a glimpse into their lives that most health care providers aren’t able to see. By observing their environment, you may even find that you’re able to treat patients more effectively.

In addition, you’ll be part of a team that provides high-quality care to each patient. You’ll work more independently than you might in a clinic, hospital, or medical office, but you’ll never be isolated from your colleagues.

And you’ll receive plenty of support. While you’re in the field seeing patients, you’ll have access to online resources, including patient records, extensive databases of disease and drug information, and access to the Web. Of course, clinical specialists, education staff, and managers are always just a phone call away.

Great Place To Work

Our work is challenging, but it’s rewarding. VNSNY nurses, therapists, and other members of the service-delivery team work one-on-one with their patients and their families, often developing strong bonds that are not possible in other health care settings. Many of our clinicians work in or near their neighborhoods. They experience a strong sense of community when current and former patients wave to them as they cross the street or say hello in the supermarket. (The short commutes between home and work are another bonus.)

Our clinical staff also enjoy flexibility in setting their patient caseloads and their schedules. Many find that this autonomy makes home health care a less stressful environment than a hospital.

At VNSNY, we appreciate the wealth of knowledge each employee brings to the organization, and we welcome opportunities to learn from each other. We rely on the diversity of experiences, expertise, and ideas of our colleagues to point the way toward improvements and innovations across the organization — from the programs and services we offer to technology and research.

As a VNSNY employee, you can take advantage of a variety of programs, plans, and services to help you balance the demands of your job and your personal life:

On-Site Health Services
    -Flu vaccinations
   - Blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol screenings

Lifestyle Choices
   - Weight management program
    -Smoking cessation program
    -Health coaching

VNSNY Health Programs
    -Well-being assessments and wellness fairs
-Disease management programs for chronic conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, COPD, high  cholesterol, coronary heart failure, high blood pressure, and lower back pain
    -Gym membership discounts
    -On-site fitness classes, including yoga
-VNSNY sports leagues including softball, volleyball, basketball

Family & Daily Living
    -Employee assistance program

We have a strong history of improving the lives of New Yorkers—and that includes our employees as well as our patients
