Environmental sustainability is a critical concern in today’s global landscape, and West recognizes the importance of sustainability for the Company’s continued success. West’s business is directly tied to the natural environment. As such, West has a responsibility to consider environmental sustainability issues related to our operations.
West has a long-standing commitment to environmental responsibility in our products, operations and within the broader community. Our efforts in these areas demonstrate our concern for the environment, our employees and the continued success of our company.
West has taken steps to help reduce our environmental footprint. However, we recognize that more work needs to be done. To help us in guiding, shaping and evaluating the success of our environmental sustainability efforts, we have created an Environmental Sustainability Statement.
Environmental sustainability is about meeting today’s needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. At West, we strive to be stewards of a sustainable future by ensuring that environmental considerations are factored into our decision making, from the raw materials we use, to our production and manufacturing techniques, to our packaging and distribution methods. At West, we believe that sustainable practices are directly related to sustainable economic performance and the creation of healthy communities. With guidance from this document, we have identified additional actions that we will undertake in the coming years at various facilities. These efforts range from energy efficiency strategies, to waste diversion and robust recycling efforts, to water conservation projects.
West offers a 10-week, fully paid, exciting summer internship program instrumental in shaping future careers. At West, we value the insight and fresh perspective our interns bring to the table.
During students’ time at West, they work alongside industry experts who guide and challenge them. Interns receive real-world practical experience, participate in multiple philanthropic events, and collaborate with other interns and Company leaders. On top of tangible, marketable skills, interns will also gain many intangibles – stronger communications skills, adaptability and the ability to balance multiple projects.

Advice to Management
This is a great company to work for. It's not often that you can find a major, multi-billion dollar global healthcare business with international headquarters based here, in the heart of Chester County, PA. This company has a great business model in that it partners with all the major pharmaceutical companies. So, in terms of impact, its reach is far and wide. As an employee, it's nice to be a part of a business that makes such a big impact on patient lives. As a growing business, with a long history, there's a mix of both established employees, who have been with the company for many years, and lots of brand new employees too. When you meet people who have been a part of the company for thirty-plus years, you know you've found a company that's worth being a part of. New employees are bringing fresh thinking and newer ways of working to the table, and the combination of these two factors is creating positive change within West. There's also a real spirit of community at West. The work the teams do to raise money for local charities is impressive, and you can tell it's an important part of the culture. As the company continues to grow, management should continue to stay true these great cultural attributes, while they embrace new strategies that will help the company thrive in the future.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at West Pharmaceutical Services (Exton, PA) in November 2019.
I was working as a temp for West when my manager pointed me towards this role. However, I still had to apply as an external candidate. The interview process began with a short (about 30 min) phone call with an HR specialist, during which we discussed the details of the role and a bit about my background (very straightforward). Since I was already working in the same building as the hiring manager, I was able to skip the phone interview with him and move directly to the on-site interview stage. This stage consisted of 4 30-minute interviews, each with a different employee of West (director of division of R&D, director of packaging, hiring manager, and senior packaging engineer). During these interviews, I had to go into more detail about my experience and qualifications for the position, in addition to answering a few behavioral and technical questions. After completing this stage, I received an offer about a week later.
