What is your favorite thing about your career at Whirlpool? What do you find most rewarding?

I began working at Whirlpool Corporation as a contractor (Mechanical Designer), went permanent, completed my BSME (via the education program), was then promoted to an Engineer and I am now a Senior Engineering Manager. Whirlpool has always provided for those who wish to improve their skills and career the means to do so. While Whirlpool has many other qualities, this is the quality I appreciate the most.

My favorite thing has been the wide range of opportunities I have had during my career at Whirlpool Corporation.  I started out in a rotational program for Engineers, and then transitioned into a Brand Manager role, followed by a number of roles across the organization, including a Global Innovation role and leading the Cost initiative for North America.  I am currently the General Manager for our North American Cooking business, where I am responsible for leading the team to deliver new products and technologies to market, with the end goal of establishing a leadership position across the industry.  I have been given a number of great opportunities here at Whirlpool, and those roles have enabled me to travel around the world and work with people from all over the globe.  To me the most rewarding thing about what I do at Whirlpool is that I have the opportunity to deliver products to the marketplace that truly make consumers' lives better. Think about and describe one of your most memorable experiences at Whirlpool Corporation. Did you and/or your team have a major success?
There have been several memorable experiences during my 6 years so far at Whirlpool Corp, but one of the experiences that stuck with me the most is the Habitat for Humanity build that I was a part of in Dallas, TX. It was so incredible to have Whirlpool employees from all over come together to help families in need and make a house into a home. The colleagues I worked with on the build became my friends and have helped to create memories that will last a lifetime. Since the build I've become an active member with Habitat for Humanity in my local community. I am proud to be an employee of a company who gives back to every Habitat home that is built. One of my most memorable experiences at Whirlpool Corporation was being a part of the Human Resource Leadership Development Program (HRLDP). This early career development program awarded me several opportunities to support senior leaders and major projects. Whirlpool offers two consumer-driven health plan options, including a Health Savings Account and a Rewards Plan.

Vision Plan

The Whirlpool vision plan offers coverage for eye exams, frames, lenses and contacts through the Vision Service Plan (VSP).

Dental Plan

The Whirlpool dental plan offers free preventive care and pays a portion of the cost of other dental expenses, including orthodontia.

Employee and dependent life insurance, as well as accident insurance, are the central components of our protection plans. Short-term and long-term disability plans round out the program, keeping a paycheck coming if you become ill or injured and cannot work for an extended period of time.

Time Off

We know employees who enjoy the right balance between work life and home life are more productive and effective in both places. That’s why we offer competitive vacation, paid holiday and personal leave policies. Benefits are generally based on years of service with the company. Students beginning their careers with Whirlpool won’t have summers off anymore, but they’ll still have time to pursue hobbies and enjoy time to themselves throughout the year.


Financial experts agree: the best way to be ready for the future is to start saving as soon as you can. Our 401(k) Savings Plan offers a tax-deferred method of setting money aside automatically each month. The company provides an automatic contribution of 3% of eligible pay each year, that may be paid in Whirlpool common stock.  Whirlpool matches 100% of the first 3% of salary deferrals and 50% of the next 2%.    These contributions are pre-tax, and earnings on the investments are tax deferred.

The Whirlpool retirement plan offers a variety of investment fund choices to give your savings earning power. What if you leave Whirlpool down the road? You take with you the full value of your contributions, the portion of Whirlpool contributions you own (based on years of service) and any earnings from all investments through the plan.

    I applied online. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Whirlpool (Benton Harbor, MI) in October 2015.


    I applied through Whirlpool Careers website. Received a call from HR Recruiting & discussed about my candidature briefly. I then had a Telephonic interview for 45 min in the following week with a Lead Engineer in the team where I was asked to describe my work experience & skill-set briefly. Later, I got a call inviting me for an on-site interview which has been scheduled after nearly 4 weeks I got the call. On my interview day, I was interviewed by totally 9 members (8 Engineers + 1 HR) for 5 hours. I had 5 sets of 1 hour sessions on the day. They went through range of questions asking me to explain my previous work experience, my academic project experience at global level, what made me choose my academic major, why am I interested in Whirlpool & about my other personal interests, etc. They also asked me some critical questions by giving me some random plots & graphs to look at. I had been interviewed by engineers relating to various backgrounds & hierarchical levels. I was invited for a lunch with hiring manager & couple of engineers within the prospective team. At the end, after the lunch, they took to me for a community tour showing me the local attractions & locations of other Whirlpool offices within the Benton Harbour & St. Joseph cities.

    • Almost in every interview session, I was asked about how I deal with decision-making within a team of diverse engineers & I was also asked repeatedly to explain about my experience for a global project I have worked for during my Masters & how I dealt with various challenges associated within the project.   1 Answer
