Willamette Dental Group – Why Work For Us?

undefinedOur Story

Willamette Dental Group was established by Dr. Eugene Skourtes and Dr. Gerald Cogan in 1970. Out of a single treatment office on Jefferson Street in Portland, Oregon, the partners fostered a new, unique approach to dental care focusing on preventive care and long-term oral health, instead of the traditional fee-for-service model. From this approach, the company has become the largest of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. Along with continuing to guide the company as CEO, Dr. Skourtes is still practicing dentistry.

Although we’ve done some growing, our roots are still firmly planted with our original philosophy of proactive, preventive care. Focusing on long-term oral health has served us well. But more importantly, it’s served our patients well. "Proactive" care means we focus on preventing disease rather than treating it surgically. And we achieve this by practicing "evidence-based" dentistry, evaluating our patients’ specific circumstances scientifically then creating a treatment plan tailored to the individual. All of our services are based on the latest research and years of reliable science, leading to the safest, most effective treatment available. Our dentists aren’t paid by the number of fillings and crowns they perform. Instead, Willamette Dental Group offers a unique compensation program incentivizing providers to provide the right care at the right time for each individual patient. This allows our dentists to truly deliver proactive dental care and not depend on drilling, for dough.

Our Culture – Compassion, Concern, and Understanding

A company’s core values aren't as easy to measure as the bottom line, but they are no less important. At Willamette Dental Group, we approach our work with compassion, caring, and understanding. It's how we interact with our patients — and with each other — throughout our daily activities. And just as we are committed to growth and leadership in the Northwest, we are equally committed to serving both our patients and employees with dignity and respect.

Our mission is to deliver proactive preventive dental care focused on promoting long term health through a partnership with our patients, and we pursue that mission every day through our core values:

Innovation – embrace change, encourage invention and continually remain at the forefront of advances in oral health for the good of our patients, colleagues and company.

Health – exemplify and promote whole-person wellness through education and support of programs that keep our patients and employees healthy.

Compassion – demonstrate caring and sensitivity for the diverse backgrounds of our patients and colleagues and generosity in our communities.

Integrity – adhere to high ethical and professional standards, demonstrating commitment to our responsibilities with trust, honesty and respect for all.

Our research-backed innovation points us in one direction: putting the long-term health of our patients first. After all, what matters to them, matters to you. And what matters to you, motivates our success every day. Set yourself free from production goals, and create the best possible experience for your patients. Pursue an inspiring career path here with us!
