I worked at Work Opportunities Unlimited part-time (More than a year)
I was a Career Resource Specialist with the Salem team. The culture of each location could vary, but speaking for Salem it was a great place to work. The current team is friendly and helpful. If you thrive off some degree of independence, like your tasks regularly changing, are comfortable with using a laptop and smartphone, and don't mind driving, this place could be for you. Most importantly, you should be comfortable supporting individuals who live with various disabilities. You will be assisting them find success in the workforce. Mileage for driving had a good reimbursement rate, and $10 a month for cell phone bill was also reimbursable.
Depending on what you like in a job, these could be challenges:
- You are not based in an office. You will be in your car and at client locations in the community.
- As you are not in an office, you cannot have an IT guy walk over to your desk every time you have a small problem. You must be able to use your laptop and smartphone confidently. (There is an IT department, for major issues, of course.)
- Many positions have night and weekend hours. On the other hand, some positions are a school schedule, and great for parents! Ensure you know what hours you are being hired for.
Advice to Management
I appreciated how in-touch upper management seemed to be, despite being remote.
I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Work Opportunities Unlimited (West Palm Beach, FL) in February 2017.
It was an extensive interview process. It consisted of two parts for interview process. One on the phone (30 minutes) and another in person. They take a week to review your application, but I feel as though for the workload, they don't pay you enough.
