WorldRemit – Why Work For Us?

What we do

Anyone can transfer money, but can you do it quickly, easily and securely from over 50 countries to more than 125 countries worldwide on your mobile phone? You can if you’re with WorldRemit.

When it comes to sending money and challenging traditional money transfer services, it’s not only important that we’re different. It’s important that we make a difference.

Our story begins with WorldRemit CEO and founder, Ismail Ahmed.

While studying in London, he needed to send money home to help support his family. But this turned out to be an expensive and time-consuming business – cash needed to be physically taken to a money transfer agent, often a long way off. They tended only to be open during business hours and Ismail regularly needed to queue sometimes for long periods - only to see a large chunk of his cash evaporate in the form of fees.

So he began to look at the money transfer industry more deeply. His journey took him from working with a number of remittance businesses and international policy makers, to becoming an advisor to the UN, where he helped companies comply with tough money transfer regulations introduced after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

With the ever-accelerating rise of mobile technology – especially in places like sub-Saharan Africa - he felt the time was right to partner this trend with his years of remittance experience. And in 2010, WorldRemit was created.

WorldRemit is changing the way we send money abroad – and we’re growing, fast.

As we expand into new territories and new markets we’re looking to add another important aspect to WorldRemit. You.

Be different. Make a difference.

You’re probably wondering: what sets us apart? The answer is simple: it’s our passion to make a difference.

We’re looking for people who enjoy taking the initiative. Our team is constantly thinking up innovative ways to improve money transfers and as a result, our revolutionary technology has successfully connected more people than ever to the people they care about most. Through WorldRemit, even people who don’t have a bank account now have easy access to international remittances thanks to Mobile Money, opening the door to financial services for some of the world’s most vulnerable people.

If you choose to join us we can offer a fantastic pension scheme, health and dental insurance, shopping, travel and gym perks, regular social events and the chance to be a part of an award-winning and innovative company. Most importantly though, you’ve got the opportunity to make a difference.

Nothing less.

Oh, one last thing.

In 2015, WorldRemit was named the UK’s fastest growing technology company in the Deloitte annual Fast 50 Award.

We’ve raised nearly $200 million in funding to date, the vast majority in the past two years. In February 2016 we raised $45m in financing from TriplePoint Venture Growth and Silicon Valley Bank. Our previous financing rounds were a $100 million Series B led by TCV in February 2015 and a $40 million Series A led by Accel Partners (the investors behind Facebook, Spotify and Netflix to name but a few) in February 2014. On top of this we’ve won the Best Practice in Remittances for Development award from UN agency The International Fund for Agricultural Development.

It’s a nice feeling when you know you’re being backed by some of the biggest names in the business, and it’s even nicer when you’re recognised for your achievements.

So when you add this to our free breakfast, team lunches, table tennis tournaments and brilliant nights out, you can see why everyone wants to be a part of WorldRemit.

Finally, the section you’ve all been waiting for – our incredible benefits. Here’s what you get for working with such a great company:

I have been working at WorldRemit full-time (Less than a year)

Company whose CEO is not trying to make it on the Forbes Top 10 billionaires, but to bring technology to the people who want to help the loved ones, is irreplaceable. Advanced technology, and the idea of improving humanity, will help you make the difference in the world.
Fun and friendly coworkers and management are supportive and recognize the quality and ambition. Great benefits (EcoPass, matching 401k, etc.) are just a plus to this amazing work place.

Keeping up with the updates in different time zones may be challenging, since Denver office is several hours behind London office, but company is already working on improving this (providing live feed in both offices so you know your coworkers across the pond, real time chats and video calls, fun gatherings once a week when both offices are overlapping with work hours ).

    Advice to Management

Continue insisting on emotional intelligence for all hires. Build a team like WorldRemit is a hard thing, but you proved it's possible. Now it's a challenge keep it successful and growing with company's growth.

    Easy Interview

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at WorldRemit in November 2017.

There was no interview held. The recruiter forwarded a questionnaire which asked to a model in. The requirements clearly stated that no input or output was required.
After some days recruiter came back saying since there were no test methods written they wanted to pass on. I asked the recruiter the requirements should have been more clearer as they asked only for the model. The recruiter mentions company expects developer should be putting up tests on their own automatically. Weird company.. I wouldn't consider them again.
