    I have been working at XL Catlin full-time (More than a year)


    Good company culture that emphasizes innovation and collaboration. People trust each other. The environment is laid back, but with high expectations for performance. Not a lot of micromanagement- You do good work because you like your coworkers and because you want to see the company succeed. There are opportunities for relatively junior employees to make real contributions. Generally good communication and collaboration across departments/offices. Employees are valued. Great 401k match, most managers flexible about hours and work from home, very strong actuarial study program (raises, study time). Awesome CEO.


    Data systems. Lack of structure around actuarial rotation program and training. Not as much transparency as there could be around pay, bonuses, job titles, etc. Some groups are very tight about expenses.

    Advice to Management

    Overall, I am very optimistic about the future of XL Catlin. For the most part, keep doing what you're doing, and listen to employees' feedback.

    I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at XL Catlin.


    For an entry-level position: I applied online and received an email from HR within a week. I had a phone interview with the HR rep, who then called me back later that day to set up an on-site interview. The company paid for transportation. I interviewed with six people, all actuaries or actuarial analysts, as well as a short interview with someone in HR. Most of the actuaries were the people who would work directly with me on my team. Questions were mostly behavioral, no huge surprises. I got asked about my internship experience and also about what I knew about the company. I got a call the next day saying that they expected to extend an offer, and then I got my formal offer maybe a week or so after that. Overall, the process was very fast and efficient.
