Zenefits – Why Work With Us?

We are passionate about our purpose, helping America's small and mid-sized businesses start, run, grow and thrive. These organizations deliver so much more than their own profits: they power 64% of net new private sector jobs in our country; they fuel the local communities where they reside, supporting other small businesses, urban renewal and providing opportunities for future generations too.

Here at Zenefits, we’ve built a culture that is both empathetic and radically transparent. We are collaborative, we embrace individuality and unique perspectives, and we celebrate all the things that align and inspire us.

We’re drawn to people with a sense of curiosity and adventure. We admire risk takers willing to stand up for what they believe in and who will challenge the status quo for the greater good. We encourage our people to go beyond their job descriptions to solve problems and grow their skill sets for themselves, for our customers and for the community.

We provide career growth opportunities as well as industry-leading perks and benefits. Our leaders are accessible and empower our people to bring their best every single day - they are passionate about making Zenefits the best learning experience in your career. In fact, we frequently promote from within, encouraging our people to grow with us.

We also enjoy great workspaces, work from home options, comprehensive health and benefits packages, flexible personal, volunteer and civic time off policies and more!

Jay Fulcher, Zenefits CEO

So you can get to know our new CEO, Jay Fulcher, we wanted to share an excerpt from an email he sent to emloyees from his first day on the job. We are beyond excited to have him onboard and couldn't be more proud to welcome him to the Zenefits family. To view more info on our CEO, check out this article from VentureBeat.

---- Today marks my first day as Zenefits’ CEO. ----

Change can be difficult, and the past year has been rough. But, despite that, I am really excited about this opportunity. I joined Zenefits because I believe this company can be an innovative and disruptive force in the industry - and is poised to make a huge impact.

What a rare opportunity.

The best days for Zenefits are ahead of us. Our mission is powerful and inspirational.  Enabling small and medium sized businesses - the economic engine of the entire US economy – to grow and succeed is a noble purpose. It should propel us every day and drive us to do our best work. What we do matters. We’re fortunate to work for a company that is capable of making a real difference. Trust me, opportunities like this do not come around very often. That’s why I was excited to jump in with both feet and I am thrilled to be here.

So, a bit about me and what fuels my enthusiasm for the journey ahead…

Having been a CEO twice before, I know this job is intense and requires my full attention...and I’m all in. I love leading a team and building something that is worthy of our time and reputation. I love to win and it drives my passion for building great companies. I’m lucky to have a great family that helps support my passion. When I am not working, I am an avid outdoorsman (horses, fly fishing, skiing, hiking, outdoor adventures, travel, etc.). I play golf but can’t seem to get my handicap any lower, so having a new job will be a huge relief.

Next, building and sustaining a great company culture is important to me. In my experience, culture trumps strategy every time. I define culture simply as “how we do things here”. As I get to know Zenefits better we’ll quickly build a culture of trust, transparency, and execution. We will work together to add these core values to how things already work at Zenefits, and make these values come to life every day as they guide our decisions and how we operate.

I am committed to making Zenefits a great place to work. I am committed to operating with integrity – every day and in every situation. I am committed to putting our customers first. Every company I have been a part of has been known for outrageous (in a good way) customer service. We will be, too, and it will be fundamental to why we win. We have a phenomenal opportunity to be the industry leader in a category we created: All in One HR.

Let’s do this.

    Pros

If you're looking for a rewarding career with opportunities to learn and expand, then Zenefits is the place for you. The senior leadership team encourages us to think out of the box and is extremely supportive of new ideas. Team members across all offices are always willing to help one another.

    Cons

If prefer a job that is monotonous, then Zenefits is probably not the right fit for you. As the company continues to grow, there is a lot of change; and, with all the changes, there are many opportunities for those willing to try something new.

    Advice to Management

Continue to inspire and support your teams.

    Senior UI Developer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in San Francisco, CA

    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Zenefits (San Francisco, CA) in October 2019.

    Interview

The process was comprised of one round of speaking with an internal recruiter on the phone, one remote coding exercise, and a full day onsite interview at their SF office.

The main focus areas for technical questions during the onsite were object oriented JavaScript and building a layout with CSS.

While the initial rounds were pretty standard, the onsite interview was marred by a large number of technical issues and logistical failures on their part. This included double booking the interview room. At one point, I was left alone to argue with a rude developer who insisted the room was reserved for a demo. I told him I was there interviewing and had no part in scheduling the room, and he angrily slammed the door on me as he left.

Asking about the company's past regulatory issues and controversies as a matter of due diligence seemed to be received very poorly by one of the interviewers, as if I had asked about something inappropriately personal.

The recruiter and the company materials indicated that candidates would receive the outcome of the interview within 5 business days, but I was ghosted despite several follow up attempts. That is until an email CCing the hiring manager got a response from the recruiter a month after the interview.

Overall, this was a very negative experience.
