Since 1992, bd’s Mongolian Grill has been delivering unique, interactive dining experiences that set us apart from the competition and has made us the world’s number one Create Your Own Stir-Fry restaurant concept. Focusing on giving guests a plethora of options, we have created a growing band of loyal customers that believe passionately about their ability to take charge of their own dining experience. Our “Stir It Up, Your Way!” philosophy gives guests ownership in choosing their own ingredients from a great variety of choice meats & seafood, fresh vegetables, crisp salads, and flavor-packed sauces and spices that are Always Market Fresh. The food is then prepared by expert grillers on a 500° 7-foot grill.

Job Responsibilities:
 
Operations
  • Ensure the restaurant operates effieciently and effectively within the Company’s fiscal and operational guidelines.
  • Monitor overall operations of the restaurant including guest satisfaction, food quality, and ambiance.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring daily, weekly, and annual sales projections and maintain restaurant budget. 
Food Production and Preparation
  • Ensure all menu items are made according to established specifications.
  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards.
 
Marketing
  • Assist with developing initiatives to build sales, profitability and Guest counts.
  • Provide positive Guest relations.
 
Staffing and Team Development
  • Train, supervise, coach and counsel restaurant staff.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels.
Compliance and Safety
  • Monitor safety and security procedures to maintain the safety and health of Teammates and Guests.
Job Requirements
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with a broad range of individuals both within the company and externally.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong math and cash handling skills.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task.
  • Set clear priorities and see to it that they are followed.
  • Strong leadership, problem solving and planning skills.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed mode.
  • Work well under pressure and be able to respond to continuously changing needs.
  • Open to a flexible schedule.
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and background check screening.

    I have been working at bd’s Mongolian Grill full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Fast paced, fun environment. With good chemistry, the grillers can make a lot of money in tips! When you get good at grilling and entertaining, guest are happier and tip a great deal. In my experience, the best managers started out as grillers

    Cons

    The heat! And occasionally the teamwork dynamic can crumble. Not having tip out from servers is a draw back. Used to be able to make my rent with just tip out

    Advice to Management

    Promote and reward grilled more frequently. Or require all FOH staff to grill before becoming servers or host.

    I applied in-person. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at bd’s Mongolian Grill (Columbus, OH) in April 2016.

    Interview

    Easy and friendly. Called got interviewed on the spot, had orientation the next day. I applied to be a server but they started me off as an host. Asked my availability and gave me a second interview which was just a feel for my personality.
