bioMérieux is first and foremost a human and scientific adventure that began more than 50 years ago.  Its expertise and its commitment to expand the frontiers of knowledge in biology are grounded in an entrepreneurial adventure that has been ongoing for more than one century.

In 1987, Marcel Mérieux, who had studied with Louis Pasteur, founded a laboratory in Lyon where he developed the first anti-tetanus sera.  He called it Institute Mérieux, and from the outset began to lay the groundwork for a bio-industrial edifice that would leave its mark on vaccinology and the diagnosis of infectious diseases worldwide.

bioMérieux, created in 1963 by Alain Mérieux, employs over 10,000 team members worldwide.  We operate in more than 160 countries through 43 subsidiaries and a large network of distributors, earning 90% of sales outside France.

Since 2014, Alexandre Mérieux, the great grandson of Marcel, has taken over the management of this family-owned company as the CEO.  In December 2017, he was appointed Chairman and CEO.

 "My name is Dennis (D.J.)  "I am in my first year as an Associate Manager on the Vitek 2 Reagent Manufacturing team at bioMérieux.  Our team produces the Vitek 2 bacterial identification (ID) cards that are used for rapid microbial identification, and the antibiotic susceptibility (AST) cards that test for the microbes’ susceptibility to various antibiotics.  Our team takes great pride in knowing that with every card we produce, there is a good chance that a life will be saved.  I have experienced this feeling for 5 years now as part of the bioMérieux team.  It has kept me engaged in my work and has made my time both enjoyable and fulfilling.  I have gained a wealth of valuable experience, having been promoted 3 times in 5 years, I have performed multiple roles and have faced a variety of challenges within the manufacturing team on both the managerial and technical level.  This comes from a significant effort from the company towards the development of its own employees.  "Hello, my name is Emilie Collins and I am a Financial Analyst supporting the Sales and Marketing teams at bioMérieux here in the United States.  I have been employed with the company for two years and look forward to many more years to come.  I find that bioMérieux is a company whose employees are great individuals to work with.  The local culture is energetic … and if you take the time to think about it … even motivating.  When I reflect upon the employees I interact with from day to day, a laundry list of great traits come to mind.  I know coworkers that are environmental activists, team mates that participate in non-degree earning graduate level classes, and managers that regularly run marathons.  I even received my first baby present ever from an extremely thoughtful office friend.  Really the point is that our employees are a pleasure to be around.

"Every day there is a new challenge which make that work is not a routine.

bioMérieux is for me a nice company to work for several reasons. The first one is the size: it’s not a huge multinational and neither a small company; that means we have the budgets to implement some really interesting and challenging projects as SAP implementation, MES implementation… that small companies don’t have; and we have a good leeway and responsibilities we won’t have in a big company. Secondly, the medical industry is really interesting due to the regulation aspects we have to follow and therefore, always some good challenges!
