I've enjoyed being on the DevOps team. I get to work on the things that are relevant to my career growth. AWS, Docker, CI/CD, CM, Infrastructure-as-code, IoT, Linux, Security, Python, and more. The devs here are especially cool - smart people and great to work with.
- This is not a big, huge company. Some might not prefer a small or medium sized company.
Advice to Management
Keep doing what you're doing. I like the outreach and transparency
I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at ecoATM | Gazelle (San Diego, CA) in March 2014.
The HR screening call was relatively routine, asking me to walk through my resume, why I wanted to work for the company, all was going swimmingly, the HR rep was singing my praises ... until she asked me to name a number, "what it would take for me to accept the position" about 10 minutes into the conversation. I replied that because I wasn't clear on the job scope, responsibilities, team size, etc, I wouldn't be fair to name a figure at this early point in the conversation. She then demanded that I tell her my current compensation, I politely refused, as I can't disclose per my agreement with my current employer and also because I wasn't clear on job scope, so the comparison was potentially not relevant. I'm more interested in understanding the team fit and if I am the right person for the position, I'm feel confident we can come to an agreement. At this point, she said, if you don't give me a figure, I won't discuss the position with you further. I replied I understood, that would be disappointing, but I didn't feel comfortable or informed enough to disclose a figure. At that point, she said goodbye and hung up on me. Wow. I was stunned ... clearly not a cultural fit for me, as I'm more interested in the bigger picture/team fit, versus being judged on compensation only. ecoATM's HR approach made me feel like a commodity, it was a very negative experience.
