I have been working at gWorks full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I joined gWorks (then GIS Workshop) in 2012 in a part-time marketing and sales support role. I was drawn to the products and mission of helping local government be more transparent and efficient and so I caught on quickly. An attitude of diving in willingness to take on a variety of responsibilities was rewarded with several promotions to leadership positions in sales, marketing, and R&D. Seven years later I am a senior executive making an impact in the company and its employees.

I have witnessed firsthand the immense change and growth the company has experienced over the last few years, particularly since new ownership in 2015. Continuous improvement is a big part of what makes gWorks different and, as a result, the company continually transforms and improves year after year. The company is always working toward better products, better services, and helping local government be better for its citizens. Leadership is driven and goal-oriented, setting the sights for where the company should go and then providing support for its employees to get us there. Employees who are driven and passionate about what they do have every option to succeed. Voices are heard and every opinion and suggestion for improvement is taken seriously. The company is fast-paced and every day brings a new learning experience.

The company truly does reward those who are willing to embrace its values and work toward shared goals. Committed employees are exposed to great opportunities, promotions, raises, and other perks. I personally have experienced an immense amount of professional growth as a result of the environment and gWorks’ commitment to providing opportunity based on merit.

    Cons

The only constant is change. The company moves at a very fast pace and this can be difficult for some people. While the company is established and has been around for 20 years, they operate fairly lean. Continuous improvement can sometimes mean trial and error and processes aren't always well defined or set in stone.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in employees and management to bring in the best people possible! Build up training processes. Continue to reward hard work with opportunities, celebrations, and team-building.
